Can anyone walk me through the process of applying for an F-2? What paperwork do I need? How long is the process?
I know there's a sticky on F-2 visas, but it's very old and frankly worthless. |

| Get your wife to call the immigration office and ask what paperwork she needs to bring with her. The process is about two weeks. |

Why is it that every few weeks we get someone posting about how to get an F2 visa.
Help me out here people but if a person is marrying or has married a Korean then isn't it logical that said Korean person can very easily find out and get all the details by either ringing immigration or looking on the website.
Who are these people marrying? Koreans who can't read or speak Korean?
Koreans who don't know how to use the phone or the internet?
Rather than posting on here may I suggest you get your partner to find out!
If your partner lacks the ability to do this, may I also suggest another thing, change your partner! |

Your wife can find all the info on the immi website. For the first time F-2er, you need more stuff than when you re-new the F2-1.
Some things I know you need;
copy of your marriage license (do not give them the original- they will keep it!)
proof of employment (a signed contract)
your wife needs to get some docs from the local gu-cheon that show you are married.
she'll also need bank statements, etc.
And, we needed a korean friend to write a letter vouching for my character.
I'm sure there are a few other things. She'll need to check the internet and make a call or two. Don't sweat it, it's easy. |

1: Certificate of Marriage--Yes you need this.
2: Didn't need it.
3: She should contact immi to see what she needs to get. Nothing at the Gu office shows proof of your marriage.
4: Didn't need it.
5: Didn't need it.
6: She should contact immi to see what you need. Don't rely on internet information, contact the immi office where you will file your paperwork at and get a name for reference. |

Because as is so commonly pointed out here, everything is different depending on the immigration seen upon arrival. What good would calling immigration do if the guy you speak to says you need a ham sandwich and you show up and the guy wants your sequenced genome?
Hell the guy above is claiming he needs a bunch of stuff I've never heard anyone else ask for. however the money is hit and miss. Some people have been asked to provide they have at least 30 million won, others haven't.

| When dealing with any government officials in Korea, whether by phone or in person you get the person's name and title. If in person you get them to supply you with a copy of the regulations, that way you hold them accountable for their actions. |

I have an F2, but my wife did all the leg work. If it were up to me getting it, it would never have happened.
But I will say I did not have a job when I got it. Just came over from the states. I had a bank statement that showed a decent amount and a lease agreement drawn up by a real estate agent showing a large deposit. If you do not actually have these, that's where family loans and such help out.
I've read of others who didn't have a large bank statement but had employment and showed the employer provided housing.
I don't think there are firm rules for what is needed. Just need to show you are not going to be a liability to the government without the means to live or get back home. And of course, be legally married. |

Ypu wouldnt make a good cop. It also doesnt take mucy brains to figure it out.
In January 03 2009 he posted this:

Hi everyone. I'm a complete newbie bound for Korea in February. I've never been to the country before, but I've been reading this forum (it's pretty addictive--it seems to have the perfect mixture of trolls, intelligent people, idiots, and cynics).
There seems to be a lot of disdain for living outside of Seoul, so I was wondering what to expect out of Mokp'o, where I've landed a job. I'm a city person, so am I going to be completely shocked and isolated? |
Therefore we know he arrived here in February, 2009. That means he has been here for 3 whole months. |

Nah, Mike's been quite clear about his arrival date. Here is a timeline of his time in Korea from another posting of mine:
January - repeatedly claim he is not coming to Korea for the women
February - arrive in Korea
mid-February - announced that he is now an expert on all things Korean
April - got Korean girlfriend
May - get married
So Michael, who's bringing the shotgun? |

What did he do in March? I'm dying to know. |

Oops. I'll fix that for you.
January - repeatedly claim he is not coming to Korea for the women
February - arrive in Korea
mid-February - announced that he is now an expert on all things Korean
March - bombarded Dave's forums with a slew of idiocy
April - got Korean girlfriend and thankfully stopped posting
May - get married |
