hey everyone i am being offered a job and I can choose either of these cities, or ask them to find me another location. I'm not sure but I thought I remembered a few people saying daejeon wasn't bad. I had originally requested seoul, but if I can find a city that is close to seoul and similar, but less expensive I would definitely be interested. If anyone has any feedback on either city, let me know asap i would really appreciate it.

OK--

Since I live in Ilsan, I can tell you that place is closer to Seoul, by far

Daejeon is outside of Gyeonggi (province surrounding Seoul)

Ilsan is two counties North-West (if you count Deogyang-gu)

Daejeon is a 2hr drive or 30 min KTX ride away.

Think if you want to spend a late night in Seoul, will you wait until the morning, or prefer to take a 30 min taxi ride home?

Since you requested Seoul, I would suggest you live in 일산 (Ilsan/One Mountain) since it is 1 hour and 10 minutes from Itaewon and Seoul Station by subway. Whereas Daejon is quite far from Seoul in comparison. How would I describe Ilsan? Using New York type terminology, I would say it's a borough of the city of Goyang. It's a beautiful borough. It has beautiful Lake Park, and it has Westerndom and Lafesta for shopping. I would highly recommend the place.

ok thanks for the opinions guys. As of now, im stuck with daejeon. From what i have heard and read, it seems like a decent place. If anyone has experience living there, any input on life out there would be appreciated. Any aspects, such as nightlife, restaurants, attractions, ease of life, expenses, etc.

Used to live outside of Daejeon for 2 years.
Eunhang-dong is the best neighborhood downtown for clubs/shopping/restaurants.
But also near Chung-nam University there are some cool areas.
There are two major rail stations, so traveling around the country is quite easy.
Theres a Costco, and a large number of movie theatres and department stores.
Taking taxi's around the city isn't as cheap as Seoul, but I've never had a taxi cost more than 20,000 won for a 30+ minute ride.
umm Yuseong is nearby, there are many spas and nice hotels there (and other attractions Wink
If you like nature, it's easy to go visit Gyeryong-san a really nice mountain that has cool festivals.

STUCK? Uh, no. Tell that recruiter you want Ilsan or forget it. See how quickly a job in Ilsan SUDDENLY becomes available. Wink

sorry, stuck was the wrong word that's not what i meant. Anyway, personally Daejeon seems like a fine place, and I'm looking forward to it. I can always kick in seoul on the weekends, from the sounds of it maybe its best that I didn't end up there. Sounds too crowded and hectic to me, personally.
