the manager at my school told me today that he would like me to teach him english (for free) 2 hours a week. without even asking me he decided that it should be tues/thurs at 1030am during an hour break that i have. Has anyone else had something like this happen? How am i supposed to handle this? |

Try to sqeeze a free meal out of it and some soju. You might become really good friends, or This might discourage him from making this kind of requests in future |

Say:
No
If he complains, then just say no again, say it's not your job, wasn't mentioned in your contract or in the job advertisement and tell him again, just in case he doesn't understand, that the answer is indeed, No. |

Are you working the maximum number of allowable hours in your contract? |

Is this an actual contracted breaktime or is it a free lesson? People tend to assume that free lesson is a break, it isn't, it's a time you should be teaching but there just aren't enough classes to fill those slots. If that's the case then him asking you to use that time to teach him sounds reasonable (unless you have specified no adult classes etc). If it is your breaktime then say no, or ask for overtime pay. |

So in that case it is just another lesson during your school day? If it isn't exceeding your contracted hours I don't see how you can complain. I know it sucks to lose a free but there you go. |

Just do it! It won't last for long, if you talk about sex, the Korean war, Kim Jong Il, the Japanese and just how great your culture is compared to the rest of the world.

This means he can ask you to teach for five hours a month. and there is not much you can do about it |

What is wrong with teaching your manager? It's a good way to connect, and you are not working your full load. Now, if he is not a nice guy and you feel worked to death, it's up to you to refuse, but if the kids are good and the classes aren't killing you, try to work something out. I gave my first boss lessons, but I quit when I found she was trying to cheat me out of my health insurance. I took that personally. |

I would accept tuesday or thursday, not both. Overtime is an option even if it says otherwise in your contract. Labor laws override contracts. |
