You guys have any good science ideas for a camp situation?

I'm preparing a couple experiments for a day of camp and then a unit study.

The only ideas I have come up with are the egg drop and Coke & Mentos.

Actually I've never tried the Coke & Mentos or seen it taught. I wonder if their are any links to video or websites that could be posted.

My unit study is on frogs. I found a nice lesson plan on frogs that's not too difficult here:

What are your gems?

Rock hunting- Get a geological textbook in either Korean or English go somewhere where there is a varity of different rocks and look for things like Granite, Limestone, Sandstone. Have them label them in both Korean and English and glue them to cardboard. This kind of stuff would be great for festivals.

How about fossil hunting. I used to do this as a kid. Found all kinds of seashells. I know there's a place on the south coast where you can see large dinosour footprints. Think of he kinds of fossils around there.

Make your own Fossils. Plaster of paris and water. Add the powder to water than stick in a seashell and let dry.

Gravity demonstration- See the effects of gravity on school equiptment that keeps breaking down and is constantly being repaired.

just youtube coke and mentos, there are plenty of videos.
watch out though, it can get pretty messy. maybe you could go outside, shake up a bottle with mentos in it, then slam it into the ground really hard. it'll shoot like a rocket.

I love making fossils, great idea.
here are some other experiments i used to love as a kid:
color theory with celery... fun with celery... slit a piece of celery about half way up, and put each "leg" into a cup of differently colored water. after a few days the colored water will rise and then meet in the celery.
or put celery in a cup of vinegar for a few days and let it become rubberized.

If you are going the physics route with the egg drop (is that making structures out of plastic/popsicle sticks so the egg can survive a drop?)
Then I would also go with bridge building. If you can get a lot of popsicle sticks (or similar materials) have the students make different types of bridges in different shapes (flat, arc, suspension) then after the bridges are built you can test structural integrity with weights.

Another example would be making play-doh. testing to see which consistency of dough is best using baking soda, water, salt, etc.

Just google, "kids' science experiments". There are heaps. Depends on the level of your students, though. I got into a real quandary trying to explain air pressure, one time.

Put kettle on to heat water and kids took turns putting in the ice cubes and watching it melt..similar to what glaciers are doing now due to global warming.

I saw a post not long ago where someone had done a rainbow with milk. My guess is if you Google "rainbow" and "milk" you should find information about it. Otherwise, you can search Dave's, but it doesn't seem very efficient.
