What province is that in? I would teach elementary or middle ages, if I were you. Adults are ok, I guess, but I like the kids. Not kindergarten though, because they won't know enough English to understand you yet, unless you know some Korean before you get here. |

Just do NOT get yourself placed in a technical/vocational high school. It is really tough. The kids have been placed in these schools cause they couldn't cope in academic schools. They are there to learn to be bakers, car mechanics, etc. I think it's great that they are been taught a useful skill, but in terms of teaching them English, DO NOT GO THERE. Most of them do not want to learn English and they can hardly string 4 words together. It is actually quite sad. |

Doesn't sound much different from any other public school synopsis I have heard or read of in K-land.
Shaunad - I am a newbie by all standards in the Hermit Kingdom and this much I know to be true. You will be tested everyday in Korea. The tests will come in different sizes, multiple directions and various intensities. Enjoy the ride. |

Gwangmyeong is near seoul but i think it in the Gyeonggi-do region but the recruiter just told me it was near Seoul because this is where I wanted to be placed or Busan.
So its an ordinary place... hmmm I'd like to go somewhere where there is stuff to do and I can take in a bit of the culture! This choosing a school is really hard! Sure you don't want to get caught in the back end of nowhere.
As for kids, yeah elementary sounds like it would be more my cup of tea! Thanks so much for your help on that area. |

According to that site: The climate is the same as Seoul; the yearly average is 12.7℃ (54.9F), the average in January is -1.1℃ (30.0F), and the average in August is 25.9℃ (85.8F) with a yearly average of 1,556mm of precipitation.
Is that accurate rates ? I hear people complaining how Seoul is boiling hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter...Those temps listed above sound wonderful to me!!
Or are they being exaggerated to get in the visitors ? You know what I mean... |

When I was younger teaching kindergarten was a blast but it wears on you.
Teaching adults is great, they want to be there and usually are real eager to learn. And you don't have to tell them to stfu all the time like younger kids.
But if you're good at teaching kids then you won't need to tell them to be quiet all the time cuz they'll be really into what you're teaching.
Guess what group you might like, then go from there... you can always change. |

I have lived in TX, KY, FL, and WA and now I'm here in Korea, I think the weather is most similar to KY, but more with more wind and it doesn't get quite as hot as KY can in the summer. I love the weather, I think it's great. I have one good coat for the winter L.L. Bean, a nice umbrella from Florida, and I have made it from March 2 to now. I hear it's supposed to get hotter than it is now, but it I don't think it will compare to Florida or Texas heat in any way.

You can also check out this website too...it's in Fahrenheit and it's pretty accurate. I check it everyday before I leave the house to see whether I should carry an umbrella or not. |
