a little background:
my contract is up on june 28th, at which point ill be heading home. my next job doesnt start until mid august-- but im not keen to be home 'that' long.
my plan is to go home, then come back at the end of july to meet a pal from my current/soon to be old job, on their summer holiday. i'd fly from home to seoul on my next school's dime in theory.
from seoul i'd right away take off for kathmandu for 9 days, then iran for two weeks before coming back to seoul to start up work again.
im worried that if i get my visa at home then come thru seoul, to pick up my bags (because id be flying on a seperate ticket and my luggage woudnt be checked thru to my next destination) id have to go through customs and theyd stamp me as 'entered' on my e2 (im canadian, so no multiple entry off the bat), and id be unable to leave until i got my alien card, multiple entry visa, etc...
if i come in on a tourist and leave right away, will it be possible to get my e2 visa in nepal or iran? anyone heard of visas being obtained elsewhere than 'home countries' and japan..?
any insights would be appreciated.
cheers. |

Iran and Korea have a surprisingly good relationship, so they probably have a decent size embassy there that can deal with VISA's. When I was there two years ago, there was a major Korea love fest going on in the newspapers everyday about trade and stuff like that. |

I think you can get a visa from any Korean embassy- call the one in Iran and ask. Pretty exotic visa run itinerary you have, by the way! |

| Just check with the embassy. Alternatively, if you can afford an extra week of travel you could go directly to Kathmandu and Iran from Korea, and then come back to meet your friend at the end of your trip instead of the beginning. Then go home and get your visa. |

South Korea and Iran have a pretty reasonable relationship.
I was in Iran last year and I was told that apparently most of the black cloth (used for womens hijabs) and many other textiles are imported from Korea to Iran.
I think Iran Air still has 1 flight per week non-stop from Iran to Seoul (on their ancient 34 year old pre-revolution 747 which I have been on and was possibly the best flight ever - as in the plane was almost empty). |

There is a chance it could take longer if they are unfamiliar with the visa. I've heard of this happening in Europe somewhere. The worker was clueless, didn't speak a lot of English (it was a non-English speaking country), and a local resident of the country had to help translate/explain some of the E-2 requirements and process. |

I tried for 2 weeks to get one in Saigon once - my school gave up and flew me in then flew me to Jpn.
as to the OP's planned visa run - congrats on what may be a record as the most interesting visa run ever
it even beats the one I made to Bangkok with a side visit to Siam Reap |
