Well, you are supposed to get that squared away before you go. A hagwon is probably not going to pay for it unless they agreed to it upfront.

There are several factors that come into play before going on your visa run. Did you go through a recruiter or directly with the school? Will you stay 2 days or more than 2 days?

If this is a complete surprise to your hagwon owner, don't expect anything. At best try to get half of the flight and hotel expenses.

The school doesn't have to pay for visa related expenses, even if they agree to pay for the visa run.

Next time, make sure the school agrees to pay for it if you want that. If you stayed more that 2 days (one night), don't expect money for that as well.

Is your new contract with the same school that brought you over? Wario's first contract had a visa run expenses paid clause in it.

If it's a new school, is there a visa run clause in it? Or did they pay you airfare in lieu of bringing you over if you were already in the country?

I'm afraid you are responsible for all the expenses unless you had an agreement before going to Japan. Anyway, you've got nothing to lose to ask them. If they like you they may pay you something or even everything. Just try and good luck!

Let's see...YOUR visa, YOUR plane ticket, YOUR expenses...hmmmm, tough call.

Maybe it's YOUR responsibility. If your school is nice, they might pick up the airfare and hotel, but don't expect it.

When we hire people in country, we pay for airfare, hotel, visa cost, and food. However, that is all discussed ahead of time. We do it because it turns out to be less than the cost of a ticket from North America, England, Australia ....

You can try to ask them politely, but you should have talked about it before hand.
