|
|
Hi. I just applied to EPIK and I was wondering what is the chance of me getting my preferred destination? Is it really a first come first serve thing or is it really random? The application gave 3 destination to choose from and I was wondering did anyone get their number 1 option with no problem or do they just throw you anywhere?? |

I only put one option on my application form, problem solved!
I also told them that it was that or nothing, saying that I applied early. |

hahaha, that is good advice. I just hope I'm still early here with EPIK with my application. I'm just waiting on one document before sending everything in and just hope everything go through with no troubles... |

They started interviews in early April. Try to send that document asap. I have a feeling a lot more applications will be coming in due to the economic times... |

Most of the applicants would still want to reside in the more popular places though, so if you're looking for a rural position you should be fine for now. |

I think that would work against you if you're not getting your stuff in early. I don't think EPIK is going to bump someone else out of a position because you gave them an ultimatum. This year they can probably afford to throw your application in the "meh" pile.
...though....I don't know. Early May might still be early enough.
OP I would put 3 choices that you can be happy with. Getting your docs in ASAP will be your best shot at getting the first pick. |

But they can still send you almost anywhere in the country... and it does happen!
The best way is to go through a recruiter who has positions for specific POEs. Some POEs will only guarantee a placement somewhere in the province, some will guartantee your choice of city, and still others will let you pick your specific school. |

I was just told by a recruiter that they have 600 slots, and 900 applicants, and popular choices or destinations are closed they are sending out advisaries for applicants that are flexible. If you have a preferred destination then you have to have all your documents in including CRC, and Visa. If you applied early then more likely you got a slot, if like myself just applied and I have to finish my paperwork, if I go with EPIK I get last dibs my top choice was JEJU but I may get a province or metro like SEOUL. |

The purpose of you sending your documents in is to get a visa. You won't get a visa until you send everything in, and receive your contract from EPIK.

EPIK Seoul positions are only available to teachers level 2 or higher, and I believe there is a different application for these positions.

I was informed by my recruiter that there have been 984 applicants, and 455 interviews passed thus far. AND Jeju has 40 positions for September and only 2 filled as of Monday. TW if you get your stuff in quick it might work out for you. |

Another thing i want to add is that 399 out of those 984 applicants have chosen busan as their #1 choice with incheon coming at 2nd (181) and jeju in third place (112). Seoul, on the other hand, is at the bottom, with only 13 people putting it their first choice.
22 out of 50 busan positions have been filled. Dont be surprised if all 50 are gone by the end of this month or in early june. |

Sparkling contribution!
Anyhow, mouse, are you applying for epik? if so, get your docs in with the quickness if you want a busan or a jeju. |

Just a warning...
Worked for EPIK a few years ago. Applied WAY before the deadline and yes, got my choice of city but only because that's where I was living already and refused to move. Also, the recruiter I used, super nice guy, was hired to fill positions in my city and the city next to mine.
So, got the city I wanted but that's where things took a nosedive. For the group of people I was with, not very many got the level, neighbourhood, or other provisions that EPIK promised them during the interview/application process. In fact, they were lied to outright and only on the very last day of orientation were we able to find out where we were going to be placed. Brought up what the EPIK co-ordinator had told us beforehand and sure enough was told that nothing could be changed and that was that. So if you're going for EPIK, make sure you have other options open and also make sure as best you can that you'll be where you were supposed to be. I quit after 8 months as I found the public school curriculum absolutely useless, the co-teachers very sweet but again useless and having to be bench warming for weeks on end in an empty school for absolutely no reason was untenable.
So I hope you get lucky and get one of the good schools but if you don't luck out then don't complain that you weren't warned.
P.S. - To the guy who said his recruiter told him the exact numbers.... HAHAHAHAHAHA
While he may have been told those numbers you can be guaranteed that they aren't true. No EPIK co-ordinator is going to truthfully tell any recruiter exactly how many positions there are. That recruiter may have 50 positions but you can be sure that there are tons more with other recruiters. |
