Seven housewives in Seoul were arrested for engaging in pay-for-sex acts after meeting male clients through a phone chatting service, Hankyoreh reported Friday.

Those arrested include a 46-year-old woman, whose last name is Park. Since Dec. 2007, Park and the six women has had sex with men whom they got to know through a telephone chatting service and charged anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 won for sex.

These housewives range from in their early 30s to 50s, including a wife of a provincial official.

According to the police, their business hours are normally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when their husbands and children are not home. They then called their male clients and met them in various motels in Goyang city or Paju city in Gyeonggi Province.

The phone chatting service charges 15,000 won for men per hour, but is free for women.

According to the police investigation, these women spent the money on buying cosmetics, shopping and clubbing.

Most of these women are middle-class housewives. They started this out of curiosity first, but soon got addicted to it after making a good deal of extra money, a police officer said.

The police believe there are more such cases using the widespread phone chatting service and expanding their investigation.

Quote:
Police arrested yesterday a 40-something single mother who is alleged to have slept with 960 men for money over the past year. She is known to have met her customers through adult telephone rooms, or "jeonhwabangs."

"The suspect is a single mother with two children one in college and the other in high school and is separated from her husband," a police officer said. "She said she turned to prostitution to pay for her children's educational expenses, such as school fees."...

Yeah, yeah, yeah... it's all about the money particularly when it's spun for maternal sacrifices ("Korean parents love their children. They'll do ANYTHING for their education and other needs"). God forbid that they're just kinky.

so much for the typical feminist and NGO effing CLAPTRAP about how prostitution only exists because women have no other options, or very bad options.

fact is a lot of prostitutes can make a very high income for local conditions, so unless you're going to be giving women jobs with 6 figure incomes, hoing will always exist.

Why aren't these Korea Times reporters behind bars and under investigation for these harmful allegations against the Korean government?

Why is that police officers in news reports frequently apologize for criminals with statements? "He's had a hard life therefore he turned to crime." While perhaps not outright defending criminals, these types of statements shape the public opinion of defendants before they've received a fair and just trial.

Additionally, I truly despise all of the suspended jail sentences. How many times does the public have to see two to three year suspended jail sentences before it thinks that nearly any wrongdoing is not justifiably punishment worthy? I suspect these women will receive suspended sentences.

Would you rather see them go to jail for having consensual sex?

I don't see this as a jailible offense, but their activities should be made known to their husbands. Then afterwards, as a married couple, they can decide how they want to proceed. Perhaps some husbands won't care, while others will seek a divorce.

I'd be in the latter category, but that's just me.

Because the Korean housewife is the quintessence of the liberated woman? Please. Not to mention middleclass housewives do not make up the majority of prostitutes in the world. The story made the news because its unique. Read a lot of Woman Addicted to Heroine Turns to Prostitution to Fund Her Habit stories lately? No, because thats the norm. Also, prostitution is a result of the overall social patriarchal hierarchy: men objectify, women are the objects. From Playboy to Barbie women are taught to view their sexuality through the eyes of men. Men desire, but women have to confirm they are desired before they are allowed to desire. After all, wouldnt it be tragic if you werent smart enough to realize hes just not that into you?

On the plus side you can blame society for a lot of your partners neurotic behaviors in bed, not your lack of talent. Good enough consolation prize for reading feminist diatribe this early in the week?

Then they can be jailed for adultery instead.

They're already under suspicion for felonious bad writing in the 3rd degree, and being embarrassments to their home countries.

Just take a moment to entertain this thought:

Imagine the chances of a rich/powerful Korean man meeting a sexy younger hooker in a room salon.

Do you think that ever happens? Sound far-fetched? Laughing

They eventually marry, and after sitting at home in her big house, she becomes bored. Then what does she do? She goes back to what she knows.

I'm not saying this story is true.... but could you see it as at least plausible?

The first part of your story worked well in "Pretty Woman"- do you think after the spark faded Julia Roberts started to cheat on Richard Gear and made a little cash on the side?

Come on, bass expander, noone wants to marry a ho! Noone wants to call the *beep* in the next day, either. You marry the virgin princess and you screw the tramp on the side, and all your needs are met. Men with money can have it all. Women with money can have a side job, apparently.
