Does anyone know of any cool places to pick up collectibles? I'm talking models, movie collectibles, 1/6th scale figures, things like that. It was an old hobby collecting stuff like that and a lot of the stuff used to come from Hong Kong, so I'm wondering if there are any decent stores around that sell stuff of the likes of Hot Toys, Takara, Medicom etc. I thought I'd see a lot more but haven't seen a single one.

Technomart at Gangbyeon station (green line) has one in a corner on one of middle to top floors.

There's also one down in the PS3/PS2/Xbox sales area in Yongsan (I forget the building's name) down at the far end.

This reminds me a bit of this:

It's an entertaining read for anyone who remembers the beanie baby rush of the nineties.

Technomart, attached to Sindorim Station (Line 1 and 2) in southwestern Seoul, 5F, next to Kosneys.

They have models and stuff.

Collecting only works if you collect stuff no one else collects. Stuff is only worth money because its rare and its either an icon or something people want.

Once the whole collecting "fad" took off the real value of most collectibles has all but gone. My father has an Amazing Spiderman #1, as well as the original comic spider man appeared in before that. That's worth something because its so rare. People snatching up a reading copy and a saved copy of some random comic being published now is going to be rather pointless.

Reminds me of a story from a friend who worked in a comic book store back home. A university-aged kid came in once and said "How much will you give me for x number of copies of Venom #1?" My friend quoted him the cover price and went back to whatever he was doing. The kid just stood there gaping at him for a few more minutes. It turned out he'd bought up a ton of Venom issue 1s as an investment, and got massively screwed over.

There used to be a lot more in the 80s and 90s. Usually they were close to schools. Most of them had cheap, low quality merchandise aimed at kids though.

The one that no one has mentioned yet is a huge one fairly close to Yonsei. It's got a medieval theme with suits of armor outside the shop. On the first floor they sell sunglasses and medieval themed jewelry (e.g. necklaces with swords on the end). Then you see the sign that says "adult toys" on the second floor. Well, what they really mean is adult collectibles. Small scale suits of armor, little knight toys, shields, etc. Place is just insane. I don't know what crazy Korean was thinking that he would sell medieval themed collectibles and sunglasses in a huge, high-priced retail location. It's only been open a few months and I regret not taking a bunch of pictures for posterity's sake since I can't imagine them being open for much longer.
