Busan's a cool place to chill for a while if you have the down time. If you're looking to party, check out Kyungsung/Pukyong National Univeristy area, it's a subway stop along the Haeundae Line. There's some good bars and clubs in that area including Thursday Party, Kino Eye, Vinyl Underground (House Music) etc... Also be sure to check out PNU (Pusan National University) which is close to Nopodong Bus Terminal along that subway line. The basement is a great part for pool and just to chill and there is a decent bar/club near by just around the corner but I forget the name.
For a more cultural experience I'd recommend checking out Nampodong, the old downtown where they are building Lotte World 2, if they ever complete it. The Gukje Market is very nice and has alot of wierd things you can look at for a few hours. While you're there make sure to checkout Yongdusan Park that has Busan Tower, a statue of Lee Sun Sin and some very curious pigeons that you can feed seeds to. Across the road is Jagalchi Fish Market, which is very famous and smelly!
One stop down from Nopodong Bus Terminal is Beomeosa Station. Walkout and go towards the mini-bus terminal up the small hill and take the local bus that only goes to the temple and back. It's a famous temple and is quite large. It's also the beginning/end of the Geumjeongsan Fortress hike that leads you through 8 kilometers of hills, valleys and a cable car. It's quite a good hike and the first 2 k is up hill.
A rather rare spot that doesn't get much attention is Dadaepo where I used to live. If you're looking to get out of the city a bit, head to Goejeong Station near Sinpyeong and go out of exit 3 or 6 (cant remember which one) and take bus 96 to Dadaepo Beach. It's a really big, natural beach that has Molundae next to it. It's a island that is very nice for walking or a leisurely stroll. It's attached via a road and is very nice.
For some good eats, checkout the Pajeon (Seafood Onion Pancake) in the food area of Gukje Market. The ajummas make a mighty mean one and they're a good price. In Seomyeon there's alot of western chains. In Haeundae there's Ganga, a really good and expensive Indian Restaurant, or if you're up for an adventure you can hunt down the mini, and i mean MINI taco stand in the back alleys of Haeundae-gu.
Oh and please checkout the Bexco outside of Centum City subway stop, there's usually something going on there that is pretty cool.
Are you looking for fun in the sun? Head to Haeundae where you can rent your own mushroom umbrella and stay white and crisp along with all of the other Han prince's and princess'. They converge in July and August and there is not one grain of sand save the edge of the sidewalk that is not covered in them.
My favorite beach in Gwangalli. There are some umbrellas but for the most part it remains open to the sun tanners. The bridge is a nice site and the sidewalk along the beach has great bars, cafes and mini-marts that are suitable for all of your needs. Also a great place to party at night (Fuzzy Navel and the two Thursday Partys next to each other.)
Looking to brush up on your philosophy skills? Sundays from 11 to 1 in Starbuck in Seomyeon there is Socrates Cafe where you can discuss your heart out on a question that is voted on by all. I used to go to this and the topics range from serious philosophical issues to why you can't sleep with animals, but can eat them? Plus it's a great way to meet people from the local area.
Hope this helped.
Suerte,
