I need insurance to supplement the national health plan. My friend had to go to the emergency room, had emergency surgery and spent 5 days at the hospital. The National Health Plan covered ZERO, so they had to pay 3 Million won out of pocket.

I don't want that to happen to me.

So, anyone got someone they know that speaks English and can answer questions and sell me insurance?

Samsung GLOBAL Medical insurance

It used to be 160,000won per 12 months

after the Global Economic thingy - when the exchange rate changed a lot - it became aprox 250,000won per year (paid upfront)

Basically - complete the application and pay the fee - and give them a copy of your ID

The insurance does not cover anything LESS than 100,000won

However, once you have paid any medical fees and have the receipts for anything that is over 100,000won - Samsung will re-imburse you 100% of the money within 2 weeks

also it is GLOBAL - which means - any country where you pay medical fees is covered

I'd like to see what they cover.

Obviously, there are limits, but it sounds like a good deal for a teacher on a stint in Korea.

We've got Samsung private insurance and it costs us 120,000 a month. We're covered for a lot more than emergency medical, though.

Our agent didn't speak English, but was able to arrange for an interpreter to join us (which he did).
