I was offered a position at this school, but I am not sure if it is legit. And I cannot find it anywhere online. It says it has branches all over Korea, but I cannot find a website. They are offering:
1. Salary: 3.0 Million Won/Month (appx. $2,400)
2. 21 teaching hours per week
3. Free furnished apartment near the campus
4. All curricula and teaching materials are provided
5. 1 Week of Paid Training
6. Working visa provided and paid for
7. 3 weeks concurrent paid vacation per year
8. Korean National holidays (10 days) all paid
9. Complete medical insurance
10. Fully paid return airfare
11. Contract lengths of either 6 months or 1 year.
12. One month salary as contract-completion bonus
Is it too good to be true? |

I received this email from them:

Thanks for applying for one of Global Englishs South Korean positions. Your resume looked great, and we think youd made a fantastic addition to our teaching staff here in Seoul or any other of our branches.
However, we did notice that your resume failed to mention anything about TEFL accreditation. Our company policy here is that all our teachers have received formal TEFL training.
It is OK to do an online course (and in fact we recommend that to all applicants so as to save time and money)
Some of our current teachers have expressed satisfaction with the online courses offered by
http://www.bestefl.com
and http://www.justtefl.com/online.shtml
After enrolling in/completing your online course, let us know so we can go ahead with your visa application.
We look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Sung Richard |
I was wondering if they were just some people trying to get me to sign up for their TEFL course. I would definitely do it because the TEFL website they sent me is cheap. Although I was hoping for a 100 hour course not just 50. |

Only 21 hours of teaching per week? Amazing, at that high salary. |

Global English is an adult hagwon, so that means you are going to be teaching a split shift. Probably something like 6:00AM-11:00 or Noon and then again from 6:00PM - 10:00PM. Terrible schedule - that's why they offer so much money. |

I got the same email.....telling me to do a TEFL course. I was planning on doing one during my break between contracts anyways, and their package does sound attractive. But I was unsure about no web-address to check them out, no idea where they are, and I want to teach elementry/middle/high....Any extra info about these people out there? |

I worked at the headquarters of this company in Jongno for a year. The main company is definitely legit.
Like most franchised schools, though, the legitimacy of the place you are in discussions with depends on the individual owner of that franchise.
In regards to the hours, 21 hours is very few. I wasn't a teacher at the company, but I knew the foreign teacher well. This was her schedule (roughly).
MWF
7-8 AM
9-10 AM
12-1 PM
6-7 PM
7-8 PM
8-9 PM
T TH
7-8:30 AM
12-1:30 PM
6-7:30 PM
7:30 -9 PM
She taught, basically, 6 hours per day--30 per week
Anyway, as I said, find out which franchise you are dealing with and then do some research on that location!
Good luck! |
