|
|
I decided to try to make a little garden this year, i have carrots, beats, scallions, tomatos, cilantro and beans growing.
as of last week, my scallions (some call them onions, mini onions, or 파) started to die. now, all of my scallions are dying, but only the scallions. i tried to water them more, i gave them vitamin B... what else can I do?
Does anyone know a reason why they would start dying all of a sudden? like maybe the yellow dust will kill them (but not the others)?
thanks... |

..well...time to go outside and buy a dong casseh and a cass beer, later |

A few questions: do you think they are getting eaten by bugs? Are there other plants in the same pot? Maybe the roots need more room to grow.
Are they turning brown and just shriveling up and dying? |

the ends are turning a grey and falling to the ground, they are not being eaten. i dont think it is the pot, because within a week, three different pots, of all different ages, began to die. one of the pots is pretty deep. everything else is fine. i think it might be just water, since it is getting warmer, so i am giving them more water, today it is raining... so wewill see how that works in a few days |

scallions aren't that domesticated - they still grow in the wild in many areas.
perhaps you over watered them - if they turned grey it sure sounds like rot which happens from too much water.
to check, dig up a dead one and see how damp the root is, and look and see if the root was long or packed up short - to see if it had enough space - they really do need a lot of depth.
also you may not have had enough drainage - the soil might have been too tightly packed. add some gravel at the bottom |

Also, make sure you have enough soil in the pot. I have made mistakes in the past by not putting enough soil into the pot and the plants/herbs died |

okay, i used a deeper pot, maybe 10 inches, i figured that would be enough since they dont get too big, but it sounds like that might have been my mistake |

How big/old are they?
I was having some problems with damping off with my seedlings, it can spread to different pots through the air since it is cuased by a kind of mould. If they are quite small and have just basically fallen over this could be the problem. After some reasearch I sprinkled some cinnamon on the soil and the problem seems to have stopped.
If they are bigger then it could be a lot of differet things, so a search on specifically what scallions need to thrive and make suer you are giving them what they need. |
