Man, Was I green when I first came here. Something from my contract has come up and bit me on the ass.
Phone Counselling. I have to ring my kindergarten kids once a week and speak for 5 mins to each of them.. I thought I could get out of it by saying it wasnt in my contract. Because I sure as hell dont remember seeing Phone Counselling in my contract anywhere.
But there you have it
Student Counselling or Evaluation
ARGH.. So next month I have to sit down with my feet on the desk and not get paid for 30 mins!
Im sorry, but the minute im not getting paid.. Im out that door so fast and going home.
I know I am gonna get hammered for this. But there is no educational purpose to this, its just another thing the director can sell to the parents (We are losing kindergarten kids in droves) So he now expects us to waste our time.
Hmmmm, you wouldnt be losing kids if you had a half decent building.
Lucky right now we are doing our Kindergarten play, so I can just get the kids to read their lines over the phone while I read a book or something. |

Yeah, for god's sake, don't do anything extra at all to help your director retain students so you can have a job. |

Once again, the reason we are losing students is because of the crappy building. He spends X amount of won for a new computer lab. But he wont do the rooms up.
Also some of the students have left because the books are too easy.
Its a wonderland school. Go figure. |

I hear ya hadeshorn. That's ridiculous. How the hell can you talk to a Korean kindergarten kid for 5 minutes anyway? I can't talk to my middle school students that long. |

Just say, "Hello, How are you", etc. when you are reading a newspaper or preparing for a class. The kids won't talk for 5 minutes anyway. Usually they just say hello then hang up. Or, schedule each kid for one day a week, then it is only 5 minutes per day when you are between classes or something. |

Your first mistake was signing a contract to a Wonderland School. |

This is a salary job not an hourly wage job. That said, I agree that phoning and then talking to kindergarden kids for five minutes, is unrealistic. I'd just do some lines from the play, that's about all you can do at that age level. |

I remember I had to call parents of my special class a few years back. That used to tick me off, because getting ahold of parents was hard. Eventually instead of doing it every month I would do it every other month, as everytime was the same thing. Try to track em down, blow sunshine up their ass about how good their kid is, even if it isn't true, ask if they have questions for me - they never do, then hang up. The parents who were good at English might waste 10-15mins of my time each call trying to practice their English too.
So I can kind of feel for you. Calling kindergarten kids is silly...but you are TECHNICALLY being paid to do it. The people who posted that you are on a SALARY are EXACTLY right. There is work OUTSIDE the classroom you should be doing.
If you just wanted an hourly job, you should have come in on a tourist and gone the route of only doing privates. |
