Any Canadians who have dealt with the Korean Consulate in Toronto, I could use your help.
I just got my visa issuance number from my employer in Korea to teach English. I need to know exactly what to do next. I see from the website I need to mail the following;
1. One completed visa application form
2. One recent passport-type colour photo (3.5*4.5 size, white background)
3. Original and a photocopy of passport (remaining validity of at least 6 months)
4. Cdn $55.00 visa fee (Cash or Money Order Only)
5. Additional items required for this type of visa:
A. For individuals with visa issuance confirmation numbers:
 Visa issuance confirmation number
(Clearly stated on the bottom of the visa application form)
Is there anything else I need to send? I have to send everything because I live 10 hours away.
When does the interview take place? Can it be done over the phone? I'm a 10 hour drive to Toronto so I'd prefer not to have to go all the way to Toronto if possible.
I heard the interview had to be done in person but the Consulate website says if sending by mail please have a prepaid return envelope. So why would I need a prepaid return envelope if I had to go in person for an interview?
Anything with experience dealing with the Toronto Consulate?
Thanks in Advance |

They suck.... Big time...
Yes, most likely you are going to have to drive to Toronto for an interview... Mine took 3 weeks to come up (from the time I dropped my documents to the time I finally got my interview)... Though instead of picking up your visa (3 business days after the interview) they'll just mail it back to you (hence the return envelope)
Be sure to send everything registered mail (Don't want your passport to go missing in the system )
FYI - The interview will be the biggest waste of time you've ever seen... Less than 3 minutes... Less than 3 questions... Most of the time he'll be looking at your application and resume and asking you to confirm things that are on it... Except questions like "Why do you want to go to Korea?" |

I have experience with the consulate there, but I went in person. I also never had to do the interview because I was there before that silly rule.
Your best bet is to just call them and find out what you need to do. Obviously if you do need to go in person then there's no point in mailing your things. Have patience. They don't tend to answer the first or second...or hundredth call. Get the information, confirm the process and then call back the next day and ask the same questions. Usually answers vary with whom you're talking to when dealing with Koreans. I'd recommend getting the person's name so if there is a change in the information later you can cite them as your source. |

Thanks, that sounds like a good plan. |
