Yes! Only 90 more days to go until the end of this annual public school contract! Goodbye 1950's, hello socially evolved civilization! Goodbye 2 1/2 hours of commuting a day on disgustingly vile and smelly granny buses, hello subway full of youth and culture.

Anyone else counting down?! We're almost there...

You think those buses were smelly thru fall, winter, and spring? Have fun, it's just warming up. The real challenge is still ahead. Summer will be better yet! Razz

It hasn't been all bad. My schools are actually wonderful, co-teachers and most of the students are awesome, but it's the commute and the day to day in small town Korea that sucks. Not to mention how difficult the culture is for outsiders.

Can't wait for summer buses full of grannies and the sea *beep* they didn't sell at the fish market, leaking onto the floor and splashing around in buckets. Aw, yeah!

The thing is newbies, after about 4 or 5 years in kimchi land - you become too damaged to go back to "socially evolved civilization" and start re-defining what "home" really is.

I seem to fit surprisingly well into the 1950s and have a 2-minute commute to school so I can avoid the granny bus. So it looks like at least another 420 days for me. It might be far from the most ambitious career but I can't think of much better to do.

I considered staying in Korea for another year or two, just not in Geoje. As a friend put it, "I'm too young for that, ya dig?" Seoul, Busan, and even some of the smaller satellite cities are cool enough to make this big city a**hole happy, and without a commute, this is an enjoyable job despite its flaws. But, Korean winters are just too damn long, cold, and depressing.

So, it's off to Taiwan! I wouldn't go back to the states now though. God no.

So what's a good way to go out with a bang? or at least make sure the principal and associated GEPIK coordinators lose face? 'Cuz between the racism, the abuse from my coteacher and fleeing of 2/3 of the school after the ENGLISH ROOM was installed, apparantly due to a NEW school opening up a few months after the remodelling, between the racist vibes and bureaucratic nightmare I've been trapped in, the end of the contract is like a breath of fresh air, or at least a well-earned date with an electric chair.
