Just wondering how many people get to use the air conditioning in their classroom? My school says they can't afford it. Is this typical of S. Korea?

I do!
June, July (I'm always gone for August) and September would be intolerable without it. |

My school has it and used it as little as possible. It's centrally controlled. Up till last winter they were free and easy with heating though. |

I do at my hagwon. However, I have barely used it since I arrived in August. I only used it a couple of times in September when I was tired of the students complaining. Moving here from Thailand, I found the weather to be very agreeable. I didn't find it hot at all! |

I think most hagwans are generally stingy with the "air con" and heating too. I remember at my first school it was freezing in November and I asked to turn on the heat. They said they usually turned it on in December. I said that was funny because I didn't know I had to look at the calendar to know if I was cold. The Koreans seem to tolerate the heat better than most of us. Taxi's are like ovens this time of year and the best they'll do for you is put all the windows down so you look like Tina Turner when you get where you're going. |

I worked in 4 different hogwans, 2 poor ones, 2 rich ones.
All had Air cons.
It costs like 50 bucks a month to rent a unit. Pretty cheap of them if they can't afford 50 bucks a month to keep their teacher comfortable. |

my old boss refused to turn on the heat till December or the ac until June, regardless of what the actual outside temperature was like.
so, as you can imagine, this made for a lot of cold November days and a lot of blistering/soppy humid May ones.
this year May has been much cooler though, at least here. |

Work at a public school and they just installed a brand new AC in my classroom. I have the remote so it's all up to me, haha. Woo. |
