|
|
I am about to submit my contract for EPIK for a Sept 2009 start. Can someone clear up some points?
Article 7 states no working on Sat/Sun and holidays. Article 2 states that we have to teacher extra classes ie for other teachers and parents at the employer's request, and other duties at the employer's request.
Employer being the school principal? The sounds like they can have us work on Sat and Sun. Is this correct?
Thanks. |

no, it means extra classes mon to fri during your regular scheduled hours (prob 830 - 430). if they request teacher or parent classes during that time and youre not yet teaching your max number of classes (22 per week), you cant refuse their request. if youre at 22 regular classes already or they propose that the classes be outside your regular working hours or on weekends, you have the right to refuse. |

No school under GEPIK can make you work on Saturdays or Sundays. If they ask and you agree that is different. But, as per the contract, you are not obligated to be at school on the weekends.
You are contracted to work 22 classroom hours for a Monday-Friday week. If your regular classes don't come up to the 22 hours you may be teaching a class of English teachers, non-English teachers, parents, or general community members.
If your classroom hours exceed 22 hours/week you are to be paid overtime. The "other" duties (paid at 7,000won/hr) might include assisting other teachers in lesson prep, a club of some sort, or other such things (I've never been approached to do any of this sort of work). |

The principal is not your employer, the provincial office of education is. |
