I have latent tuberculosis and I've been treated for it already. I've been working with a recruiter from footprints to get ready to teach in korea and when I told her I have latent TB, she suggested that I don't move on with the application process. She said that Korean immigration is strict with TB. Now I'm wondering why this would be a problem since i've been treated for it and i'm not contagious.

Does anyone have experience with this? Do they only test for active TB or do they test for active AND latent Tb? what type of TB testing is done for the health check up? if it's a skin test then i will always test positive for it. but if its a chest x-ray then i think I should be fine. If I brought with me a doctors note stating that i've been treated would that make things ok?

I did not expect this treated illness could possibly prevent me from teaching overseas. Someone please provide me with their insights or experiences with this. thanks

Skippy's Rule of Korea #3 - Perception is everything here in Korea. He looks handsome so thus he must be a good and nice person. Ohh he went to an IVY league school he must be soooper smart.

Simply put I think your screwed. You will not be able to come to Korea. This is like having a DUI from 14 years ago. Since that time you have never had another incident or criminal record. Heck you even went AA for those years inbetween. To the Koreans(mostly the government) you are still a raving drunk.

You have your TB under control it is not contagious (I THINK?). But in the end it is all about the those two letters T and B. Is that on the list of reasons to not hire somebody - yep they are and your not hired. Please do not come again.
