Hi guys,
I applied for EPIK through Footprints and I have an interview in Two weeks. I really want to go to Busan, but I know that it is one of the most popular destinations. Does anyone know if those positions are filled, yet? Is there another route that I can take to teach in Busan? Thank you for your help.

Both EPIK and Footprints have said that Busan will more than likely be filled by the end of this week Sad

nooooooooooooo, you don't.

Well, since it's probably too late for Seoul, I guess you do, but remember this, While it might be a big city, it's not particularly "city-like". If you want art and culture, be ready to ride the KTX quite often.

On the other hand, we have nice beaches and the occasional festival.

I also applied for SMOE through Canadian Connections and they sent me an acceptance package with the application so I am not sure if I will get into that one or not. hopefully still have a chance but not sure. My 2nd choice is Gangwon-do and 3rd choice is Gyeongsangbuk-do for EPIK. Hopefullly, those are some good places. I rather live in a area known for its outdoor activities and travel to Seoul when I need to for the arts and stuff. But I am ok if I go to Seoul

It's this desperation for Busan EPIK that is making their job conditions become really bad.

Do you mean pay or actual job conditions?

EPIK will pay you 200K less a month in Busan.... but you're in Busan.

Are these filled jobs for August?

Pay has been stagnant for about four years. Extra-contractual perks are being wiped out across the board. There are a ton of new rules ranging from your students and co-teachers assess you and this can affect re-contracting to if you have under 22 class hours per week even after-school classes students pay for have to be done by you as part of your regular hours.

Have fun.

They must disslike you at your school because I get paid for all of my afterschool classes and camps. I think you are the exception to the rule in Busan.

New rule to be enforced is you can only get paid for after school classes if you have 22 regular class hours. If you have under 22 you have to make up those hours before you get paid extra.

This summer unpaid camps are supposed to start. According to the contract you get 14 days holiday. If it's not your holiday you are on salary to teach whatever they want you to.

I'm well aware of the past, I've been here long enough.

I'm not sure about the enforcement on this. I have 18 hours of regular classes and 4 hours of after school classes. I am being paid extra for my after school classes.

I'd like to think my school is lying rather than your school just has to catch up to the regulation.

I think your school is lying. Even if they do crack down on things, it's not like the principals at other schools actually have to listen. "No, THIS YEAR, they really mean it! You have to follow the contract, sir!"

I don't know any EPIK teachers who get paid for after school classes unless the classes put them over the 22 hour mark.

The pay is so low and conditions so notoriously bad in Busan that I'd do Changwon if I was to resign. I mean, it's not like Busan is Seoul or something, it's really not that great at all. Certainly not worth the headache.

If they are lying then they are scummier than I ever thought a school could be. Given the relationship they either have an irrational and hidden hatred for me or are uncontrollably greedy and are skimming money.
