What are some good bars to go to in these areas during the week not weekends? It is easy to find places on the weekends, but what are some good bars to catch a drink after work during the week? I know Hongdae has a lot of clubs. I am wanting to know about bars, however. A place where it is easy to meet young foreigners 20-25 and Korean girls besides the club. Thanks.

During the week in Itaewon I would try Baby Guinness or Nashville. Helio's is the place to go on Thursday night, but it's a club. Not too much happens in Itaewon and Hongdae during the week.

Where are baby Guinness and Nashville located in Itaewon? What exit do you take off the station and what are they near? Thank you.

Dunno 'bout Baby Guinness, but Nashville is on the main drag - Exit 3, I think?

Nashville is down from Seoul Pub, which is also chill and busy enough not to be boring during the week (or it used to be anyways). There are plenty of bars in Itaewon that are good for a relaxed midweek drink: Hollywood, Geckos, Bricx, Seoul Pub, Three Alley Pub, Helios (which is not a club in a million years), etc. They all have decent food as well. A lot of places will be busy on Thursdays cause it's lady's night, especially Helios, the Loft, and Bricx.

Nashville is Exit 4, Baby Guinness is Exit 1, take a right at the alley beside KFC, make a left at Restaurant Moghul and walk about 100 meters, it's on the left.

I call anywhere that has a dance floor a club. Anyway, most of the girls that you'll talk to there only want to dance, so if you're not up for that then you'll have little luck.

During the week? The people who drink, during the week, are the miserable old-timers and/or those with drinking problems. Who doesn't want to party with them 24/7? Yipeee! Rolling Eyes

meh I used to week drink all the time. When your hagwon finishes at 10pm, what else is there to do? Going home at 4 am is like going home at 11 pm if you were on a regular schedule. Used to regularly stay out until 4 or 5, and still wake up around 11 to hang out with my gf for a couple of hours before making it to work at 2.

Itaewon seems like the better bet. I tried Hongdae a couple times...the "Ho-bar"s were usually pretty dead. Watt's on Tap in Sinchon might have some people...as might Woodstock.

As for Itaewon

Polly's kettle is actually an interesting place to drink during the week. The barmaids are gritty, fun to talk to you, and tend to remember you. Bar Nana if it's open and you just want to listen to some non-kpop. Reggae pub if you want to talk to the nicest bar-owner in Korea and some pretty cute wait staff (changed from filipina to korean i think).

B1 in Itaewon usually has an excellent Thursday crowd. Weekends there are too packed for my liking, but on Thursday they have great house music and a more upscale crowd than most of the other places in Itaewon.

I like BricX, either the flavour in Itaewon behind the Hamilton Hotel or the one in Hongdae across and down a bit from M.I.

Agreed.

That whole back alley behind the hamilton, walking towards baby guiness etc, has a good vibe on thursdays, when the weather is nice. Everything is open onto the streets. Nice cafes bars n stuff.

That's what I really miss in Korea. A chill place to go on weekday evenings with cool people to chat with along with good classic music that's not too loud. I like bars like that and then do non-drinking activities on the weekends like fishing, BBQ, movies, music/arts festival, and sleeping since the bars on the weekends are too crowded, loud, and irritating. I can go out on Saturday nights any where I want in Korea, but like anywhere else, it's too loud, crowded, and annoying. I too like a chill Monday or Thursday night at a bar with maybe 5 to 10 people. Europe was sweet, even in small towns and especially so in small classical towns, each with their own natural wheat beer brewery.

It baffles me that there's no place single people in Korea outside of Seoul go out after work for a drink to enjoy small talk, a friendly atmosphere, shoot darts, play pool, and possibly make friends with others. Where I came from and most places I travel, even most small towns have a watering hole. Of course, there are restaurants and soju rooms, but these are for anti-social groups staying with their work people. I'm just not into the local scene whatsoever.

Since many of us have to travel to the big apple to even find a Western bar, go on Saturday afternoon instead of 10PM for that quiet, low key, cool, mellow, and friendly chill time. And then get the heck out when it begins filling up at 10 or 11 as the music volume gets too high making talking difficult. Well, late weekend nights is not chill talking and dart playing time like weekdays anywhere you go. Why do I write on a computer? I'm bored and lonesome as a hell.

Hey, i'm drunk enough that I can't even see it in the bookmarked pages, but there's a page that's got quite a few known/less known Hongdae bars/clubs that is pretty useful. I've been here a while and this page still threw up a few interesting places to search out.

As I said, I can't really see straight, all I remember is that it was on some seoulstyle website. So have a look for that. Has a bit more than the typical Bricx/Nabi recommendations (though they are both cool too).
