I upgraded the firmware to the DD-WRT firmware, and it transformed this router into something completely awesome.
With the factory Firmware, whenever I plugged my modem into this router, the speeds dropped by like 60-80%. Now with the DD-WRT, I get full speed.
Also, I can use the QoS to give my desktop priority on bandwidth over my laptop.
The steps to install the DD-WRT firmware take around 1-2 hours, depending on how slowly you want to take it. It took me a long time because I wanted to check, and double check all the steps before executing.
I already bricked 1 DIR-300 router when I messed up a step. I mailed the bricked router to DLink Korea, and I got a replacement in the mail 2 days later.
No questions, no fuss. |

I used to have a Linksys WRT54, which I used the same style firmware hack on. It was fun to play with, and boosted power, but the point of diminishing returns was easily reached before you dirtied the signal and actually hurt yourself more than helped.
I also don't believe it's physically healthy to boost the power on those things too much, to be honest.
Enjoy playing. Download that free program you can use to check site power and such (wish I remembered the name). |

| I haven't messed with the wireless power/transmission. I mainly wanted to boost the LAN/WAN thorougput. Having the ability now to throttle bandwidth to each computer is pretty cool. |

I briefly looked into doing this with my DIR-300, but it looked quite complicated.
Where did you find all the relevant information? |
