Does anyone know if this is in Yongsan yet? And how much it will be in Won, including a lense? Thanks! |

Yea I was afraid it was going to be jacked up in price. They usually do that if it's hard to find. |

That is a ridiculous price.. that is more expensive than the d90 (which is a better camera).
Either way, why go to yongsan? It is much better to go to Namdaemun. |

For one I'm going to be at Seoul Station this weekend, one stop away. Second, a couple people have told me Namdaemun is better, but a lot have said that Yongsan is now the better place for cameras. I just don't really want to waste my time if it's going to be double the normal price or if they don't even have it yet. |

In my opinion..
Yongsan is better for point and shoot cameras.. and Namdaemun is better for DSLR's.
Why dont you call around and find out if they have the d5000? |

I thought about it but I didn't think stores in either of those places had phone numbers or spoke English. If I can find a link maybe I'll try to call. |

I bought my d90 from a place called yesdica.. the number is 02-319-0077
I can't promise they will speak english well, but I am sure you can always go with the Nikon d5000 and they can say yes or no.. That way you can be sure that they are selling them.
**edit**
just looked on danawa.. and they have a lot of d5000's listed (even at lotte), so would be pretty sure they would have it..
might be a good place to get a price point as well

Ok sweet, thanks a lot for your help. Hopefully I can bargain someone down to 900 or less for the body and the lens . Maybe if it's that or nothing they'll bite?? Doubt it, but here's to hoping! |

I'd also recommend going to Namdaemun. This is the camera district of Seoul. Bring cash if you want the best price. Visit many stores there and ask for the lowest cash price.
If the sales guy is obstinate about lowering the price, wave the cash in front of his nose. |

Do you think the D5000 is worth paying over 1 mil won for?? We've got about 800 or 900 thousand won to spend at most, and that's really cutting it close (we'll be taking photos instead of eating some days) , and we're deciding between the 5000 and 80
Is the 5000 worth waiting another month until we have more money to spend? |

The main thing that the D80 has over the D5000 is the in-body autofocus motor. This means you can use older AF and AF-D lenses. With the D5000 you'll be limited to AF-S and newer ones. This might not be a problem if you don't have or plan on buying older lenses.
It really depends on what you want to use it for.. |

Well we don't have any digital lenses at the moment, we're still in the non digital develop your own film era, so that doesn't matter. We'll be buying a new lens with the camera. The only reason it might matter is if the newer lenses are much more expensive or much harder to find. Also, we plan to use it for social events like weddings and parties (not professionally), but also for artistic reasons.
So are you saying that the 80 and 5000 are essentially equal? Does that mean I should just buy whichever one I can find for cheaper?
And thanks for your comments, you have been extremely helpful . |

The d80 is a discontinued model.. I believe they replaced it with the d90.
It has an auto focus motor in the camera (thus being able to use older lenses)
The d5000 is a brand new model... it is rated lower than the d90 though.
It doesn't have an auto focus motor (so you will need to buy newer lenses (which have a motor in the lense).
It can also do video. It has the moving lcd at the back, but not sure how useful that is (because you would need to be in live mode to use it).
I think if it were me.. and I didn't have the money for a d90 I would probably go for a d5000. Anyone else want to give an opinion

also, if you do pick one up.. the VR lense is the one you want.. it is a great invention.. |
