This potentially effects North America far more than Korea, so I figure it qualifies as "Off-Topic": http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/NEWKHSITE/data/html_dir/2009/05/19/200905190056.asp

Seems plausible as Koreans are doing a lot of cutting edge stuff with biology these days what with their glow in the dark puppies and whatnot.

Take any news of what Korean science has accomplished with a fat grain of salt. I am not being anti-Korean with this statement.

I know with absolute certainty that a Korean scientist who was a supposed big shot in stem cell research falsified his data for years. In his home town they erected a statue of him, he was a national hero etc. When it was finally discovered that he had in fact falsified his data, instant peria. I believe he is now milking polar bears in Siberia.

Nothing could save this man's face! In my opinion, what an ass! There is no way you can totaly falsify data and at some point not be discovered.

WHO: Swine flu vaccine to take months to produce

GENEVA Drug manufacturers won't be able to start making a swine flu vaccine until mid-July at the earliest, months later than previous predictions, the World Health Organization said Tuesday.

The disclosure that making a swine flu vaccine is proving more difficult than experts first thought came as U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan met Tuesday with representatives from up to 30 pharmaceutical companies to discuss the subject.

The Korean version is probably made with kimchi as its active ingredient, so I'm immune already. Rolling Eyes Shocked Embarassed

You can plan on that tripling by the time Roche gets their mitts on it and tries to recoup for lost Tamiflu sales. And doubled again for those with insurance. I can recall when a flu shot at K-Mart was $10, then $20 at a pharmacy clinic about five years ago. Lord knows what they are today, I now get mine at the VA.

If this turns out to be true, they sure put the US CDC to shame.

Ah, Dr Hwang WooSeok....he claimed to have cloned a human embryo! And I believe he attempted to publish fake the bogus research and photos in a couple of major journals.

Also some antics in medicine came from Dr Cha (guy who founded the Cha women's hospital franchise) with his published and fraudulent study that prayer doubled the pregnancy rate in a group of women doing IVF. This happened in the US, and he's still practicing there.

As far as scientific misconduct goes, these were pretty high-profile claims...what kind of professional would assume the results wouldn't be checked and duplicated...
