I was just wondering if anyone has bought a new labtop in Korea since they've arrived there. I currently have a labtop that I expect to last about six months and I'm just wondering how easy it is to get a western style labtop (Read: English keyboard/software) in Korea. I've played with the idea of buying a cheap labtop here in Canada and keeping it packaged until my current one dies, but that may be completely unnecessary.

Any advice is much appreciated

Stores may be reluctant to install English software. Unless you're comfortable with doing this yourself, I'd bring one from home.

You'll get a much better price on equal products if you buy in America. Also, you won't have to hunt down someone that can install an English system for you. As the above poster said - buy it in America.

Anyone who has actually bought a laptop here has said its trivial to ask them to install English XP. As for an English keyboard, it still has english letters on it, it just has the Korean ones in the corner as well.

English software is always available anywhere. You have a choice of languages when you install it. Regardless of the region you buy it in (Assuming you buy software) you usually have a choice of the languages for that region and english.

When they install the english version of xp for you, make sure that they get the right country. My guy clicked on Britain, which I thought would be no big deal, but their keyboad is a little bit different from the American one. For one thing, the " is where I expect the @ to be. It's annoying...kinda like the "word" labtop. Where did you get that spelling? It was made to fit in your lap, ergo...laptop.
