i'm in busan. I picked it as its a big enough city yet right by the sea with beautiful beaches and mountains. I heard seoul can get very polluted etc in summer. I really like the sea. I spent a few days in seoul and liked it but subway system seems too big and difficult to navigate.
In busan there are three lines. Thats it.
Up to you!! pros and cons for both.
Go n'eiri an bothar leat.

| This is the first time I've heard of Seoul's subway system being a con against the city. It certainly beats Busan's. The best thing about living in Seoul is pretty much 90% of the country is crammed in there. If you want to do anything other than appreciate the indigenous culture in your role as an outsider, Seoul's the best place. |

| I've lived in both and for me its not even close. Busan is big enough that you have all the western things you want but isn't completely westernized and crammed with people. The weather is nicer, there's less pollution, there are beaches. If you're into temples or mountains Busan is a million times better than Seoul. Since Busan is on the ktx line its only 3 hours to Seoul anytime you do want to pretend youre back in the west. |

I've been in Busan for a few months and I love beaches and mountains so it's all good. Beware of where you are in Busan though. If you're on the outer limits it may take 40mins to get to a beach, especially if you're off the subway.
And you can get the same experience in other places, but not in Seoul (but they've got lots of Dunkin' Donuts :) |

You must be living in the sticks; Busan's full-to-bursting with people. But to answer the original poster, essentially, Seoul has the nightlife, worse pollution, higher (but not much higher) cost of living, snobbier foreigners, international cuisine (larger variety, anyway), and a massive PT system.
Pusan's much easier to navigate around (and cheaper, too), milder winters, a bunch of overcrowded beaches, but has greater (and cheaper) access to various islands and Japan for getaway purposes.
There are also way more international flights leaving Pusan now than ever before. The fourth subway line is set to open before long, and it goes directy to the airport, too. Costco's opening up soon, and they've just opened a Shinsaegae (a large department store) with all the trimmings--ice rink, movie theatre, spa, restaurants, etc.
I came here when I was 25, and never looked back. Pusan has it's bad points, but Seoul is much much worse, and I never liked the attitude of the foreign community up in Seoul. And as far as getting imported goods, there's not much you can't get in Busan anymore. |

Would you care to elaborate on that statement? Would you say the foreign community in Pusan is friendlier and tighter than the one in Seoul? |

| I've lived in Busan for about a month now. I don't know Seoul very well I was only there for a week, but I can say that the wagookens here are friendly, altough I have come to notice that the longer some people are in Korea the more snobby some people become. I don't really understand why you can hate your own people. Sure there are "scumbags" here, and Korea is "one giant frat party,"but we all do have one thing in common we aren't from here and we all have the same job. I know I am a noob, but when I see a foreigner I say Hi. If it wasn't for the expat community here and how understanding some of them are, I would have midnighted within a few days. As far as the Koreans go, they are a little more laid back here from what I here, and the people are generally more friendly. |
