Don't say Yongsan. Yongsan is quite a far trip for me and I don't want to wait until the weekend to go there.
I can't do Danawa either. Can't figure the website out, don't have a credit card, it won't take my alien registration number when I try to sign up etc. etc. etc.
The problem is my old video card (GeForce 8800) is unable to support my high-resolution monitor. When I run demanding apps, it conks out and gives me an artifact problem that eventually leads to a crash, even if I quit the application.
I know it's the card because I googled it and a lot of people have the same problem. Under clocking it does work, but even then it still goes under occasionally.
My question is, where can I buy computer components locally? Do any of the big box retailers carry them? I tried Homeplus, and they only seem to carry whole computers and not components (actually wrote down the desired card's name [GeForce GTX 275] and the reps there had no idea what it was nor did they know anything about anything). I also tried some independent computer stores, but the newest cards they seem to carry are the GeForce 7000 series with some old GeForce 6000 series cards lying around.
Before I try E-Mart, Lotte Mart, etc. etc., does anyone know of a chain that carries these cards? Korea is the land of technology, I get the feeling these things are sold everywhere and I'm just unlucky.
Thanks! |

Hi Mart and the likes will not carry parts, only ready-made systems.
The best bet is to find a local computer shop; there aren't any chains of hardware sellers. You will probably pay a premium for doing this.
Wait until you can get to Yongsan. I used to live 2 hours from Seoul by bus; the trip to Yongsan was an event!
Alternatively, you can order from them by phone. Get a Korean friend to help. They will ask you to deposit the money into their account, then call them, tell them its done and probably the next day (or two), you will have your part.
If you have to return the part, all of these methods are....less than desirable.
Just go there. |

That's the problem. The newest cards they carry are almost two years old and actually worse than the one I have now. I'm looking for a GTX 275, not a 9600 (worse than an 8800).
Thanks though.
Looks I might have to go to Yongsan afterall. |

Don't you have a Korean friend or co-worker who will order it for you on the internet if you pay him/her cash?
I do sympathize though. Outside of Yongsan, computer component shopping is non-existent in Korea. I suppose the ease and normalcy of internet shopping has caused this. But I doubt there were ever good PC component stores outside of Yongsan.
I don't even think Yongsan is a particularly good place for PC parts!! They do a lot of sucking-in-air-through-teeth when you ask for quality components there. They hate it if you don't ask for the most mainstream components. |

| If you want high-end computer parts the internet is the best bet. Have a Korean help you out, you don't need a credit card or even put in your alien registration number for something like Danawa and you'll get the best price. In most cases you'll get the part within a day or two. |
