I'm looking for a service that can move from city to city--and doorstep to doorstep--with the possibility of storage for a month's time.
Have you ever used a moving service in Korea? I've found information on several years' old threads about a company called KGB, but can't find current contact info.
How was the service? Were the fees reasonable? Were they 'foreigner friendly'? Was short-term storage a service offered?
Can you suggest any alternatives?
Thanks!
IN MY SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES, I'M MOVING FROM DAEGU TO SEONGNAM, AND WILL BE GONE THE MONTH OF MARCH. I WILL HAVE BOXES AND SOME FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES. THE ONLY PERSON MOVING IS ME, SO THE AMOUNT OF ITEMS ISN'T THAT GREAT. I WILL BUDGET WHATEVER IS NECESSARY... |

Will do...
Hell, if anybody's got the time and an appropriate vehicle/unused space in their dwelling in the area, I'll pay for your time and expenses. |

I called the Seoul Global Center.
They sent me this email:
For information regarding storage service, please contact Hyeongsung logistics storage center http://keeping.co.kr/goods2.htm at 011-709-0415 (monthly 60,000won). You can also refer to http://www.direct24mall.com/
http://www.24dream.com.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
SGC
If you don't speak Korean, have a Korean friend call because they don't speak English. I think they said it will be 130,000 won for pick-up and moving to the storage facility and then 60,000 a month. They're located in the Jamsil area and they can hold your belongings for up to one year.
Good luck! |

All taekbae (courier) companies are also home movers.
Logen, Hyundai, Hanjin etc. are the big names.
Look on naver using 익스프래스 (express, their term for a removal firm). |

I used Allied when I went home for the summer. They came, were prepared to box everything, but I already had it all boxed up, and took it away in around ten minutes. It was 50,000 for inside Seoul, and 100,000 for outside. (This was the pick-up charge.) It was 35,000 a month. I even extended an extra month and they didn't mind. They delivered my stuff to me the same weekend I called when I got back, and were trying to help me unpack but I declined. They were very nice. They also speak English on the phone. (My receipt was also in English.) From what I can tell, they keep a record of who you dealt with last time, so everytime you call they have the person you talked to before call you back. This way, there was no confusion about what was happening and when. They are a big moving company, used to moving for big companies internationally, but very helpful and the best company I found.

Update to this post: I actually went to Allied's office in Yongsan to speak with someone about storing my belongings for three months. I was quoted a price of $15 USD a month per cubic meter, with a minimum of 3 cubic meters, so $45 USD a month. I though that seemed ok, and the guy I talked to even said he would give me one month free, so $90 USD for three months. BUT, he said to pack up and transport my stuff from Seoul to their storage facilities 1 1/2 hours away in the country will cost 200,000 won. same charge for bringing it back to Seoul as well when I come back in September. Does this seem excessive? Would I be better off just renting a room at a goshiwon for three months?? |
