So here's a thread to list some cool Korean expressions you might have encountered.
My first contribution is:
이야기에 꽃을 피우다 (to make flowers bloom in the conversation). It basically means to have a really animated chat.
Any more contributions? |

I've forgotten the Korean expression at the moment, but there's one to describe a cold snap in early spring--Winter is jealous of the spring flowers. |

Don't have it with me right now, but the book "How Koreans Talk" is full of hundreds of these. I'll have a flick through it when I get off this afternoon. |

It's a good read, and I've caught a lot of people off guard with phrases from the book. A lot of them are a bit antiquated but still pack a punch.
As with most idioms, they can sum up complicated situations in just a few words. |

I've been looking a few up, and they're surprisingly abstract!
This one sounds especially cutting:
배속에 거지가 들어앉았나?
[Is a beggar squatting in your stomach?]
You eat too much, too quickly. |

I like "Chaggi-ya".
Chaggi means "me" or "myself" "Ya" is calling someone.
Lovers say this to show they are calling their other half. Calling yourself to you. |

My co teacher always tells me I have a long tail when I leave the door open. I think it's a really cute way of asking someone to shut the door. Sorry, have no idea what it would be in Korean because I immediately forgot when she told me. |
