Hey for those of you that are in Kland gaming. Did you bring your xbox360/ps3/wii... or did you buy one there? If you buy one abroad, will it play games that are in english?

I'd bring my xbox.. but its heavy and well.. they break alot and I am worried I'd drag it to Korea and get the ring of death...

basically, I am headed out East soon, and I want to be able to get some game'n goin.

how do ya'all do it?

I brought mine. It is heavy, but I didn't want to be without or have to buy one here. If you bring it, you'll likely need a transformer. They're not expensive, but know you'll need it.

If you buy one here, I believe you can get it modded to play pretty much anything. You can also get your american (or whatever) box modded pretty easy and really cheap.

I bought my Xbox 360 here in Korea about 2 years ago. I was lucky as I managed to find one that was almost new but paid a used price for it. I've had no problems with the RROD (though it did pop up once, then disappear) though a few times it has overheated, then it just requires time to cool down.

If you're planning on hanging around in Korea for a while, I'd recommend getting one here. I have about 15 - 20 games and they're all in English. Rarely, there are certain games (Halo 3, Eternal Sonata and Assassin's Creed spring to mind right now) that are only in Korean or Japanese here. Then you can go onto PlayAsia, a Hong-Kong based game website, and get the English version. It's a little more expensive, but they have free delivery to Korea.

Usually, in Korea for a fairly new game, I pay about 30,000 won. Brand new games usually run about 45,000, though a few very popular ones can be a little more. I'm not a huge, must-play-the-newest-thing-type-gamer, so I just wait until they're cheaper (I just bought Star Ocean 4, and from last week to this week, thr price dropped from 42,000 to 30,000 for a new copy - it pays to be patient if you want to save pennies). I've picked up a few older games (2007/2008 games) for only 10,000 each. Can't argue with that kind of value.

I get all my games in Yongsan, and you can spend a fun couple of hours looking around all the stores and finding out prices. They have few games for Non-Korean machines, so if you bring your box from outside, you might be best sticking to the internet shopping.

Of course, if you're only coming for one year, I'd say either bring your own or skip the whole idea. You might find yourself having too much fun (positive outlook) or working too much (Daves ESL (i.e. negative)outlook) to actually play much.

Also, there are always outgoing ex-pats looking to offload their machine for cheap, so that's another option if you find yourself bored once you get here.

I'll be selling my like new Korean Xbox with English games in either late June or Early August. Xbox Live ready. And I'm sure there might be a few others selling theirs as well. It's a transition time.

If you like hockey(assuming your box is us/can ntsc), bring your box with you...meaning hockey other than just nhl 07. If not, you'd probably be fine buying a new/used (un)modded one here. I have both a modded ntsc-j box and an unmodded ntsc-u box here. It's a pretty good combination you might want to consider.

dont be too worried about buying one over here. i bought one and it works great. only had one or two games be region locked and in korean so i couldnt play them. most of the time games will come in english or be region free. Playasia has a great list of what the languages and region encoding is on different discs.
