Interesting! I've never actually seen troops (with guns) hanging out in public places. I was just walking home from work, and I noticed quite a few Korean military guys with their rifles. A friend of mine lives a few miles away from me, and said they're around his place too. Anyone else here noticing this? Usually protest police are out, but this time it is actual military. I suppose they're taking NK's new threats more seriously?

Yeah funny you should mention it..just tonight I said the same thing to me flatmate..and they were not riot police but military..I spotted lots of them in Seokchon yesterday and today in Noksapyoung. In all seriousness this is the first time I have felt a bit un-nerved about any North Korea threats. Actually in the past have never really taken much notice of the talk and attention created by the North..now..i dunno..

I've seen them before (if we are talking about the same thing). People have to do their military training - every year or two people have to go back to do some more military training (this is after their military service).

I saw guys in full regalia with rifles pointed directly at the passerbys (not in hand, but still pointed) outside Yongsan today around 7:40. really weird.

Of course you see them in Gangwondo, that's where most young dudes go for military service. Armed military in Seoul is unusual. Why they got them there is beyond me as the real threat is a missile attack or other terrorism attempt; not a physical invasion of Seoul. Korea appears to be too easy of a target for terrorism and a rude wake up call could unfortunately be in store. What's going to happen is very wrong. You can bet on that statement as history just repeats itself with atrocities we all know are wrong and should be stopped before they get to the point of people suffering and dying. Inducing fear with threats of nuclear missile attacks while abandoning the truce is also a very wrong move, but NORKS know they got great big China and Russia as allies. Bastards.

It's just that there's going to be a military coup next week, and they're getting us used to the 'feel' of martial law ^^

We've got 30 tanks over where I live. APC troop carriers and a few attack helicopters as well. I live near the Korean Institute for Defense Analysis though, that might have something to do with it. Normally a very wide, quiet street with zero commercial businesses. Last night the officers were inspecting weapons, soldiers were marching up and down the streets - first time in 14 years I've ever seen activity like that.

Clearly you are all just out of the loop. I have it from an inside source that the upcoming release of Starcraft II is nothing but an elaborate hoax. There is no actual game, only screenshots and small video clips of phony gameplay footage. The government is simply preparing for when this news becomes official.
