So, I need a bit of help here. I made plans about 2 months ago to go to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to see some old mates. I'm leaving in one week. My boss pulled me into his office today to tell me I should really consider cancelling my trip because of this "pandemic". Said he's gotten 2 calls in 2 days from the Korean Health Ministry (or something) about his foreign teachers. I've been in Korea for about 3 months. He said he can't force me to not go, but I pretty much shouldn't go to Cambodia. One teacher just got back from Bejing and another is in Jeju now.

I'm not worried about getting the swine flu, I'm more concerned about how my cowokers and boss will react if I go. Should I just go anyway?

I honestly heard from a Korean teacher that "Koreans usually can't get this flu because we eat too much kimchi". That's pretty fantastic reasoning right there...

If that were the case, then Koreans would never get the flu. Kimchee does have probiotics, but probiots aren't enough to prevent you from getting the flu. Probiotics are good for your health. Kimchee does also contain a lot of garlic and garlic helps protect you from colds. However, I haven't seen a non-Korean study on the issue to back this up. Nothing has proven that theory to be true. Garlic may help protect you from it.
You can get that without eating kimchee.

As far as whether you should travel or not, I can't say yes or no, but people are in a panic it seems. For your boss, you are a cash cow, and so he doesn't want you going and the parents worried and that sort of thing. It's your call.
