I made a post a few weeks ago about buying a used bike, and was told (by people who seem to know what they're talking about) that there's really no such thing in Korea. Best of luck to you though. Me? I'm going to buy a new bike next week unless I find out about something before then.

Hello there,

On the road to Pocheon from Uijeongbu taking bus 138 or 72 there is a tottering little old man with a bike shop who offers a lot of great free services and looks a little thread-bare so I am recommending him.

No frills.

He has a stack of semi-rusty used mountain bikes lined up outside the shop. You travel past Seong Woo Ri, his shop is across from Lotte Super and get off at Daejin University exit then cross road and walk back. He has a robot bicycle rider "mannequin" with a dirty yellow rain coat which is hard to miss.

You would have to take an express bus back to Dong Seoul terminal to carry the bike or you could "ride" back?

But most of his new bikes not be more than 100,000 I have no idea.I just can't believe anybody thinks there aren't used bikes in Korea. Must not get out of the city much.

Hope that helps?

I was going to recommend a Korean mountain biking website I know (www.wildbike.co.kr) but the cheapest secondhand bike I've seen there was 500,000

Maybe GMarket might be an option. Or can anyone remember the name of the main Korean "Ebay"-type website in Korea?

Alternatively, if you're on Facebook then try asking around on this group

I've just seen another option for secondhand bikes.

http://www.bikesell.co.kr/

Just today this site had about 50 people advertising bikes on it. Unfortunately you'll have to be a member to use the site. When I get back to Korea I'll try to join up and maybe I can help some of you out. Iin the meantime, ask a Korean friend or co-worker for their help.

wildbike, bikesell and dossa(corearoadbike) are all fancier bikes. you'll be hard pressed to find bike parts under W100,000 on any of these sites. for just a little more you should be able to get a bike new. i've seen some decent models at the local shop for between 125 and 165.

Yep, with bikes it's sometimes better to just buy a new one. Unless you're picking up a really good deal or a classic (I bought an original 1998 Specialized Stumpjumper, with the original kiwi price of about NZ$3000 for NZ$15 at the dump recently) you may end up spending lots and lots of won to bring an old crusty bike back into working order.

It's probably best to try and support a decent bike shop in your neighbourhood if you can find one. They like the novelty of having the occasional foreign customer, and AS is generally free.
