My neighborhood grocery store is a ripoff, I want to stock up on some rice and veggies. |

Go to Cheongnyangni Fruit and Vegetable market for the cheapest fruits, vegetables, and nuts you'll ever find. I'm sure rice is available there too (it's a huge market) although I've never noticed. They sell meat too but it's open air so I wouldn't trust it.
Anyway, go to Cheongnyangni station on line 1, between Jegi-dong and Hoegi stations. I don't remember the exit number but if you're at the back of the train when it's going in a north-eastern direction (toward Uijungbu or Soyosan), turn right out of the train and take the exit on your right. It's not far on your right.
I too got sick of high prices for fruit and vegetables. This market was the answer to my prayers. Happy shopping! |

Almost all of them are ripoffs- including other items, too. Some posters on here claim they pay the "same prices" at neighborhood grocers that they pay at large stores or Costco. That's a laugh- the small places have the highest prices. Avoid them, if you can. |

A few, very few, neighborhood fruit and veg shops don't use the distributors. They get their fruit and veg straight from farmers. If you find one of those shops, you're in luck. Their prices are roughly 30-50% cheaper than supermarkets.
Homeplus was charging 4500won for 4 medium-sized potatoes last month. Absolute rip-off. Just plain ridiculous. In the local farmer-supplied store it was 4000won for a good-sized bag of potatoes. About 4kg's.
It's the Korean food distributors who jack up the price of the fruit and veg so much. Not the farmers or the retailers. |

I went to Cheongnyangni market today. It's well worth a walk around, even if it's just as a tourist. Kind of had an old Asian vibe to it, not like modern Seoul. Just watch out for the dog carcases. |

There is a pretty big market across the road from World Cup Stadium. I don't know how easy it is for you to get there, but its probably pretty close by bus. The prices there are pretty good. |
