|
|
I have no screens on my apartment. Sounds like I'm complaining, but few would be happy in this dump of a place. I have a small bathroom window and then the sliding glass doors to an open air veranda. Since it become hot, now the mosquitos are driving me crazy all night. I got this poisonous smelly spray yesterday, sprayed it at bedtime, but by 2, 3, and 4am, the squeeters are all over and even tickling my nose after covering up everything else with my hot blanket. They love legs. A nice cool cotton top sheet would help so I wouldn't be burning up to stay covered. I haven't a clue what Korea is using for a bedsheet. You got me on that? This is a really cheap dinky apartment where working class young couples live who get up at O dark 30 for work and just make a lot of noise. I have many problems with the place such as faulty plumbing, noise, loud fridge about to go out, and stench on a mud road where spent oil, garbage, and trash are regularly dumped just below my window with a huge sewer drain grate. It really is effecting my quality of life and my work so I let my co-teacher know and requested a move, but denied. I'm seeing much nicer places in other parts of town that seem standard. I seen several other teachers apartments and it's nothing like mine. They have more room, screens, and aren't contending with such issues. A cheapo recruiter put on the apartment and appliances who did a real shoddy job.
I could use OFF!, but that's pricey and may not be healthy to use every night for 3 months. How do you deal with the mosquitos so you can rest and relax? My co-teacher just simply said, "Ah, that's too bad." I feel like I'm camping in the city. |

Use an electric fan. Have it blowing on you all night and it will keep you cool as well as keep the 모기 away. |

If your city, school and apt suck so bad you need to man up and quit your job. It isn't going to improve unless you take action. Whining isn't action. |

Yep, I already made 3 legitimate requests to move house with principal immediately saying no to her each time. Funny way to say it, but that's how my co-teacher says it. Yes, I am considering taking some further action, but haven't decided how I want to go about that. Once I do, there is no turning back so I must carefully consider before I say anything else. |

you can buy your own window screens (just the screen material) in hardware stores, also mosquito nets for over your bed are also sold in various home stores, maybe even Homever or Emart.
if this is the only problem, then just take control of the situation and fix it. this is your home, not a hotel, just figure out what you need to get it right and go about getting it done.
as for bedsheets, yeah, that's can be a problem. you'll have to shop around to find those. sometimes you can find a similar Korean-style lightweight blanket but cotton sheets are few and far between. again, try Emart or even Costco, just be prepared to pay big won for them. |

As the above poster said, you can make your own screens. It's not difficult--the screeming pops into the plastic frame that you build. It wasn't that long ago that screens were rare here.
That, a fan and homet should do you. |

Buy one of those macines that you plug into the wall. You put a cartridge into it which heats up and repels mosquitos. THis works for me. You can buy the machine and cartridge at most convienence stores and grocery stores. They are in a blue box. |

The nets and plug ins are good, though the plug in has a bit of a pong. Also get one of those electric tennis racket things(just for revenge "bzzz....kapow!"). |

I never really understand why people do this on a non-korean language thread... I mean the act of putting random korean words in their posts.
Is it like an 'ooh look at me, I can write in korean!' situation or what? |

More like "It's a Korean word, and romanizing is lazy and not always accurate."

But surely there was no real need to use a Korean word there. Surely the English word 'mosquitoes' would suffice in that sentence, given that 99.9% of the discourse on this thread is in English.
It's just showing off |

When you say "showing off" all I hear is "Stop having fun, guys. I don't feel like learning Korean, so stop upstaging me." |

Isn't there a special thread where you can 'have fun' ( ) writing in Korean? |

The Korean word for mosquito net is moe-gee jahng, I would show off my massive korean skills, but my keys don't type Korean. You can get one in a lot of places, look around. |

Yes. It's called the Korean Job Discussion Forums.
OP: Get a mosquito net and cover your drains. The little buggers often get in that way. I keep my AC on as well, as they don't like the cold air as much. One of those tennis racquet electrified things is also a good idea. I'd avoid the plug ins, even though they work, because you'd be breathing the fumes in as well.
If you can, get someone to send you some Skin So Soft from Avon. My grandparents live in the mountains and mosquitoes HATE the smell of that stuff. I wear this when I'm helping grandpa chop and carry wood, as well as whilst picking blueberries, and hardly ever get bitten unless I forget to apply. Bonus: It's DEET free.
