|
|
I received a text message from SK advising to visit an SK office as my status was "expired" - it was hard to understand as the E was not that good but it seems I have 15 days to do so - my old visa has expired some months ago but now I'm on a new one -
but this begs the question
SINCE WHEN DOES SK MONITOR OUR VISA STATUS????
I've had this same phone number for several years, even left the country for nearly 6 months and came back, added time to my phone, no problem, so what gives??
anyone else getting these messages?

Maybe something else expired?
Anyways I think the Korean boogey man is out to get you. Always. |

My friend had his phone shut off because his visa expired. When he signed up for his phone he had to give his VISA information. I think your phone contract is contingent upon your VISA expiry date. |

I just finished working at my school and my internet and phone service were both canceled without warning the day my contract ended.
Not sure what's up but I'd assume -someone- is monitoring it. |

I got this message too! I'm 6 months into my first visa though. Any ideas what I should do? |

It was probably registered to someone at your school, and they called the phone company to say cut it off. |

this is a pre-paid phone - no contract - and again - I've had it for years with periods in and out of various visas - |

This also happened to me, causing a switch to a contract with LG. I asked the KT guy if KTF was the Korean Government. He said no, so I asked how my visa status was KTF's business. He didn't exactly have an answer.
SK Telecom was even more of a smirking *beep* about their phone service. |

Is my phone going to stop working then? If so will I be able to just buy another one from Technomart? |

This is likely because they don't want people selling card-phones to others. Such transactions have probably resulted in phone fraud scams that have bilked Koreans out of millions of won.
At least, I'll bet that's what they're trying to prevent. |

The banks are starting to share.. one bank (I can't remember which) has access to immigration records to verify passport information for new clients. The visa doesn't matter (you can get an account without a long term visa) but they can verify passports with immigration. They even have a direct computer connection so they can just type in the information and get an instant check.. I can't remember the bank, but soon, all the banks will have the capability.. I know it isn't KEB or Hana..
I wish the US would be so "interested" in foreigners' legal status. |

If you signed up with your ARC or passport then no.. the expiry date is on those.. immigration doesn't have to share anything. |
