Before you say Google or the internet I want to first hand information regarding the following locations: Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam and Chungbuk

I was told by Rowan that Gangwon and those places listed above are the only places with position open at the moment. Can anyone give me some insight into these locations?

Thanks.

I think you'll have to be a little more specific. You're asking for information/insight on half the country.

I realize that now. Without knowing which city I'll be placed in let alone which province I thought a general consensus on which of the provinces named are considered to be the best province to be placed for your first contract.

As I understand it Gyeongnam is relatively close to Busan and Ulsan so going to and from there shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Chungbuk seems to be a nice place if you're interested in the outdoors, etc. but I can't find anything specific. Of the cities in Gyeongbuk I'm only familiar with Andong but again insight into the areas by someone who has lived in one or more of the provinces would be appreciated.

I know I'm asking for a lot, but there isn't a lot of information beyond wikipedia for information on these places.

Look at a highway map. This is the best one I could find http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middle_east_and_asia/south_korea.jpg

The main expressway from Seoul to Busan is along the NW/SE diagonal. Also, the land is flatter.

Given these two things, I prefer living in the western part of Korea. I have also lived way out in the eastern part. There was nice scenary, but that was it. Not something for the single life unless you are a monk.

Couldn't agree more. I livei on the east coast and it's beautiful, but quite boring and travelling anywhere west is a hassle. I thought that moving north from Busan would put me closer to Seoul. Nope, I'm still 5 hours by bus.

Jinju, Changwon, & Busan were all pretty good. Andong was great too. Other places such as Daegu (too spread out, imho, & you really need a car) & Daecheon were so-so. Daegu was probably my least favourite town in Korea. Gwangju was okay.

Another source on Korea is Galbijim:

Or try images:

It really depends what your interests are, too. For someone that loves hiking & the outdoors, Sokcho near Soraksan, would be great, but those who seek art, nightlife & culture, would hate it, & would be better off in or near Seoul / Busan.
