So I'm finishing a public school contract in a rural area of Korea. My contract doesn't expressly state what the story is with my bonus and airfares (of course).
Can I expect them to pay the airfare home now, or do I have to pay and be re-imbursed? Also, I'd LIKE to be paid everything (i.e. my last pay, bonus etc) before I go, into my Korean bank account. Am I dreaming? OR if they HAVE to pay me after I leave, it's paid into my bank account at home right? or do I have to leave a bank account open in Korea?
Can any one let me know what the story is here? I tried to find info about this here on Daves already, but I can't say the search function was that sterling!
Thanks so much |

Answers to your questions all depend on your school. So, you should ask those questions to your district coordinator or FT handler at your school.
However, it is usually paid on your last payday. |

Yeah, it's hard to get answers here at times. Plenty of users but not many contributors.
Problems arise when your last payday falls on the same day your visa and/or ARC expire. When is your last payday? It's possible to get paid that day and close your bank account the next business day. This applies even if your ARC and visa expire on that last payday. You'll just need to get a departure extension if that's the case. You do that at immigration using your ARC, passport, and departure plane ticket. I got a 30-day extension that allowed me to settle up (mostly) everything. People will tell you that you MUST leave the country when your ARC and visa expire. Baloney. A departure extension will allow you to stay here and take care of any unfinished business.
You could also ask your boss to pay you a few days before the end as a favor to you, but this is risky. If he says yes today, you may have to make a panic trip to immy on your last day to get that extension if he doesn't do it. |
