No dude, she was trying to smuggle it into Bali, not Oz. This is old news but she claimed someone put a package full of pot (which ended up being the exact dimensions of her case, funny eh?) into her boogie board case, busted in Bali, life in prison. |

| Yes, unfortunately Aussie. This story is really old. It happened in 2005 I think and it was HUGE news in Oz. For the people calling the barmat-stealing Aussie woman in Thailand a bogan, she doesn't hold a candle to Shapelle as far as I can tell. |

| Why anyone would smuggle dope to Indo is beyond me? That's like taking coke to South America. Her family is quite the little dope heads back in Aus and who knows if she was guilty or not, but she was not that innocent from the whole drug scene. |

That's the main reason that initially, I thought she was innocent. At the time, the explanation was that yes, they have dope in Bali, but it's no where near the quality of the stuff she was smuggling in. So it's not completely analogous to the coke/south america example.
But she had 4.5kg of the stuff in her boogie board bag! Think of the volume of dope you'd get for that! Not to mention the extra weight in the bag. She said she didn't notice it cos she was dragging it...yeah right...guilty guilty guilty. And now she'll be rotting in Balinese prison til she's 48.... |

Yeah, the grower confessed last year.
he grew it and sent it to Shapelle's Dad, who then used Shapelle as the courier.
they used to put $1000 in cash in the boogie board bag as a bribe to the customs official in Bali. The day shapelle got caught the money wasn't there because someone (presumably someone who knew about the scheme) had stolen it.
Pretty freaky really because I, like nearly everyone else, thought she was innocent. Not. Her and her family were drug dealers from way back.
Still freaks me out to think of how she took the fall though |
