I have 22inch LG monitor/HDTV that I would really like to take back with me. Anyone have any experience of doing this? I know it's a fairly small TV but I wouldn't be able to take it as carry-on because I already have my laptop, camera bag and normal bag. I'm already worrying that I won't even be able to take that on with me. |

First guess would be a shipment crate - Takes a couple of months, but you can fill them up with many things. |

Well it's only really the TV that is the problem. How about just putting it in checked-in luggage? |

Strong cardboard box. Lots of foam and bubble wrap inside. Lots of packing tape wrapped outside the box to strengthen it. Check it in. You'll be fine. |

I'm going to put my widescreen HD monitor back in it's original box with Styrofoam and then pack that inside a postal box surrounded by crumpled newspaper to post home. Just have to cut the plug or get a plug adapter as it's dual voltage and is the same tech specs as Korea sells in the US. |

earmo - do you reckon you would have to pay extra at check-in for putting in another bag?
I think with flights to the US you're allowed two bags but I think with the UK, only one. I'm pretty sure I read that those were the rules, at least for Lufthansa on my flight out here.
Robot - you going to do that airmail? If so how much do you think? I'm not sure if I would want it on some ship for 2 months. |

Personally, I think you're better off selling it and buying another when you get back home. I'm sure someone would likely buy it for about $100. Since a new LG 22" runs for around $200 new and shipped in the U.S., it's better to pay the extra to have a new monitor and not worry about cracking the screen while lugging it through the airport. |

It's all about the weight. Not the number of bags. Most European airlines are a bit mean with the weight. I think 20kgs per person is about average for airlines like Lufthansa. So, if you want to check in your monitor, which, fully boxed, might weigh about 8kgs, then you need to make sure your other check-in bags don't weigh more than about 12kgs. Or you might get stung for overweight baggage fees. Although it's a really mean check-in clerk who won't allow up to about 5kgs overweight for free.
I've heard US airlines allow a lot more weight on international flights. |
