A terrible thought came across my mind tonight.....Burger King pays better. This is great experience, but isn't the exchange rate depressing? |

But Korean BK pays like 2800 won an hour or whatever...... Everything is relative.
Don't sweat it. Would you rather work at burger king? Enjoy what you're doing. As the song says, love the one you're with.
My point? Nothing, just trying to get up to 25 posts. |

Burger King doesn't provide housing. I seriously doubt it provides health insurance. Try saving the dollar equivalent of a million won (800 USD) monthly while working at Burger King back home. |

this is hyperbole. BK can't pay more than $8.50 an hour. if you're making a miserable 1.8 million per month for 120 hours, that's still over $11 per hour, plus you get housing, health insurance, pension, severance, etc. |

Here is a simple way to look at it:
It is still very easy to save $1200 per month, after all deductions and expenses, on 2.2 million won per month in South Korea, even at the current exchange rates.
If you work 30 hours per week, that's about 120 hours per month.
So, you can SAVE $10 per hour working in SK.
Can you work at Burger King and, after taxes and all your expenses, save $10 per hour? |

Yes but think of the negatives.....Being the only person who speaks english, dealing with micro management, communication problems with the boss, having your co-workers talk about you in a language you don't understand......yep, working in Burger king back home would not be good. |

Are you kidding me? What Burger King are you talking about? If you are talking about cooking burger for a king then you have yourself a case. |

With the exchange rate a few months ago, maybe; but not now. However the lunches BK employees can get do leave me feeling rather envious. |

Stop such nonsense and go straight to the source.
The Urban Myth, which is better for you? I am guessing here, but do you miss your career at Wendy's? Which has better take home pay at the end of the month? |

This job is slightly better than working at Burger King. I'm more concerned that the comparison can even come to mind. |

On Thursday I had the first home-cooked meal since I was last at your place (suffice to say it wasn't at my place). I do know how to make one or two things that taste all right, but here learning how to dial is just so much easier when you see a lunch counter full of squid tenticles, pumpkin mush, seaweed soup, two types of kimchi, and absolutely nothing I'd consider food. |

Last night I was walking by the back of the local Lotteria when a head of lettuce came rolling out of the door into the alley chased by a 16-year-old. The lettuce came to a stop on top of the lowest point - the sewer grate. She knelt down, picked it up... and 'contemplated'. As I walked by, I smiled at her and said "Hmmmm... delicious." This took her by surprise. When she looked up at my waegooken face, her automatic reply was "I'm fine... and you?"... LOL.
Burger King, Lotteria, any pizza with corn/sweet potatos... take your pick (and your chances).
At least... at Suk-Bong Toast across from Chicken Castle, you can watch the owners (not) cook your bacon... and you have them trained to use lettuce, not cabagee. |
