Ok, so I just got a new C4 visa. On the way, I went to the "Visa Section" of Immigration at Omogyo. This is what an officer told me, although it's loaded with a lot of "shoulds".

Basically, the whole thing where you have to interview if you have a violation is for people who stayed more than 10 days. I overstayed 6 days, and the officer was saying it should be fine, but I have a horrible feeling that it's basically up to whatever consulate. Thing is, I've gotten like 2 visas from Fukuoka now, post-violation, and it's all gone fine. It's just that this rule affects E2's only, and I've had a C4 and an E7 now. Getting an E2 is going to freak me out.

Here's why:

When I was picking up my C4 just yesterday, this guy was getting sent home because he overstayed by 19 days 10 YEARS AGO ON A STUDENT VISA.

It's ridiculous.

Basically, if you've overstayed some time in the past, go to the Visa Section of immigration (it's not the main building, it's like 5 min's away by taxi) and talk to someone. Maybe you can work something out.

IF you want to double check if you will be approved or denied you can check at the nearest immigration office. However, just to make sure also check at the VISA office located about a 5 minute taxi ride away.
