I've never been for a proper massage and i know next to nothing about them. However, a good friend of mine has been going through a fairly rough time recently and it's her birthday soon. I was thinking getting a voucher for a nice relaxing (and reputable) massage would be a good gift. Can anyone recommend any places or give me some insight into what i should be expecting to pay? Appreciate it.

I go to healing hands every 2 weeks or so for a massage. Usually have a one hour massage, and that's 60,000. It's in Itaewon.

There are three masseuses working there and they are all great. The owner speaks fluent English and he is very friendly. Very relaxing place although if you can I'd avoid going later in the evening because there is a norebang downstairs and sometimes you can hear some terrible singing!

Just walk into any place with two spinning barber poles. They will take care of you proper.

I don't think Black Francis would appreciate that.

Actually, he got such a great love massage that he changed his name from Frank Black to Black Francis! True story!

for an unforgettable therapeutic Chinese massage - class act, all the way, with scented oils added to warm water to wash your feet and legs off before they even begin - and all this in a cozy room with fresh cotton shorts and a shirt to change into first -

a complete menu of services will be handed to you (only in K) - it was recommended to me to ask for the whole body with extra work on the legs which is 1 1/2 hours for 70,000 won; open 7 days a week, no appt necessary. they have longer and shorter sessions of course. credit cards accepted.

Directions for this den of exquisite pleasure:

Apkeujeong Station exit 6 (Hyundai Dept Store).

Walk straight until you come to a street light. At the light cross the street and go right, keep walking, several small businesses on your left.

look for a ginseng store - hard to miss, it has a huge glassfront and lots of red decor and of course ginseng floating around.

next door you'll see a smallish door with a huge picture of a footprint - this is for reflexology which is, I believe, the focus of the massage used. thru the door there are stairs going down, this is the place.

Enjoy - you won't regret it!!
