An early morning trip to Costco led to some heavy bags on the subway but the sales were pretty good. Again, it depends on what you need, but if you need pineapple upside down cake you can get it for about 13,000 won. There's also cheesecake, and the ever-popular red velvet cake for about 11,000 won. In my search for snacks for school I noticed a large drop in prices for the Orville Redenbacher Microwave popcorn. A case of 32 packs now costs only 9,700 won. That's a great deal. They also have German Stollen for less than 4,000, and it's not in the bakery section. Isn't that considered a Christmas food?
Oh, and I was there when the doors opened and, yes, there are people who make a mad dash for the food court for the onions with mustard and ketchup. For whatever reason, I was eating my Costco hot dog while someone, (a 20-something Korean woman), was taking pictures of the onion dispenser and then their large plate of onions with mustard. What kind of blog entry will that make for someone? |

Industrial espionage--E-Mart will soon be selling hot dogs once they figure out to chop the onions just so. |

Costco must not mind losing money on those bags and bags of onions. I always wondered what sense it made to let them gorge themselves on the mustard/ketchup kimchi? |

I saw them refill an empty chopped onion dispenser one time at the Costco in Ilsan, and that dispenser can hold A LOT of chopped onions. |

The onion kimchi makes me feel nauseous in the food court nowadays. *shudder
Did you get the coupons booklet for March to May, sojusucks? Some useful staples on sale like TP or baking soda. Some dietary bombs like the cheesecake haha. |

It's actually pretty good but huge like all of the other Costco delights. |

I have seen them stopping people from filling up empty soda cups full of chopped onions, which I guess they were planning on taking home.
They could give a little cup of pickles with every pizza slice, but that would probably be a lot more expensive. |

Maybe the relish manufacturers can get in on that. However, raw onions from China are probably the cheapest banchan ever. |

I secretly put my wife through the onion test today at Costco. I was relieved and oh so glad when her and her sister started making fun of the other Koreans with their mounds. However, she was disappointed that there were no pickles. She's Korean after all.
Also, Costco on a Sunday is just about as fun as punching yourself in the face. Not highly recommended. |

If you must go to Costco on a Sunday, go late in the day after the crowd goes home. It's not as unpleasant.
Personally, I think that I do need some pineapple upside down cake, but I doubt that Costco's could compare to my mother's so I will pass on it until I can visit home in a few months. I'd better start exercising now to make up for all the treats that I plan to indulge in while I spend the month of July in Ohio and Michigan. |

A pound cake with dried, caramelized slices of pineapple on the top. |

You guys go to Ilsan Costco... I live near there.
Holy cow, do those ajummas seriously know how to run for the food court. I'm just glad that they love Costco because it would've been closed by now (Walmart).
What I'm waiting for is that 3,500 won off on Fruit by the foot... great for the kids. |
