I was given the task of running a drama club about 5 weeks ago, but was given no instructions or materials of any kind (pretty typical, no surprise). When I asked what I should do, they told me to just do any random activities, so I did.

But now my kids are getting restless - even if I make the random activites 'drama-related'. I get the feeling I'm missing something (like a script) and was hoping someone out there knew what should be taking place in these clubs. Big karma to anyone who can help.

I used lesson materials from the British Council kids website.

http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-stories-fairy-tales.htm

After doing all that stuff, they wrote their own personalised versions of the story - Goldilocks is committed to a secure mental institution etc...

And then rehearse, then do a stage version + film it.

Mine started out as a drama club, but it turned into a musical theatre class. I took a fairytale, rewrote it, added music, singing and dance routines, and it is now part of the yearly Fall Festival. I teach most of the classes for free because it takes a lot of time but we have a wonderful time, and it will look good on my resume when it is time to move on. Also, the school gives me lots of other time off because they know I put myself out for it. If you have the opportunity to put a full scale production together you will have way more fun that just limiting yourself to a drama club.
