One of the things I'd like to do while I'm staying in Korea, is possibly visit a friend of mine on the Gold Coast.
So here's my questions.
What's the process visa wise, if any for a visit?
and does anyone have a rough idea of cost? I tried looking it up one time and it said something like the lines of 4000 US. Granted, that could've been from the US to Korea to Aussie land, because I think that came from a US travel site (travelocity or something)

You can get a reasonably cheap flight with China Air to Brisbane, one hour north of the Gold Coast, for about $1,100 Au, one way, stopping overnight in Taipei. This was $600 Au cheaper than Korean Air in April 2009. An advance purchase return fare won't be much dearer.

| I like that flight from Brisbane that stops in Taipai as we got to stay there for the night. Depend on what country you are from if you need a visa or not. I usually pay about 125 Aussie for a hotel like the Ibis on the gold coast. How long you going for? I would budget 200 bucks a day. Make sure you go down to Byron bay and see Nothern NSW while you are there. Gold coast is quite superficial. Train or shuttle from airport to Gold coast is very simple. |

I had to get a tuberculosis test before I could get my visa, because I had lived in Korea for more than 3 months before I went. I have no idea if it is different for a short stay visa.
It cost me 50,000, I think, and took 1-3 weeks to get the results. The biggest pain was getting the right forms filled out at the hospital here and then sent in properly.
Is there a particular reason you have chosen the Gold Coast? As D.D. says, that town is very superficial. I do recommend getting out to other places if you can budget it! |

Hi There,
If you need to come into Brisbane airport and can't come into Gold coast airport don't worry too much. The airtrain will take you to the gold coast from the brisbane international airport or Brisbane city (central station) for about $20. I also recommend exploring further then the gold coast, although it could be a base.
I'll admit Brisbane is big in area so it's difficult to pin down a few places.
I am sure there might be a way to save more on accommodation, though I wouldn't be surprised if the gold coast is expensive by now.
Accommodation would help you out..sure to be a lot of backpackers, hotels and cheaper options.
One tip is to talk about what you might do, there are sometimes discounts to be had if you are going to see shows, theme parks, etc.
Please don't try to take food in this will be taken at the airport.

I'm heading to Oz in a few months. If you plan on visiting for less than three months, you need to get an ETA. You can get this online through the immigration website, or you can also get this through your travel agent. All you need is to give them a copy of your passport. It will take around five days and cost 20 AU.
I'm flying on a one way ticket to Cairns for only $630,000 won. There is a trip with Qantas via Hong Kong and also one via Narita, Japan which costs a bit less. |
