OK, now I don't necessarily think anything with happen with North Korea. But I still think it's a good idea to be prepared for whatever may happen in life.
So if North Korea were to attack, what is an American teacher to do? Is it wise to go to Embassy? Seems like that would be a target for attack.
If North Korea were to attack, realistically what methods would they use? I live between the DMZ and Seoul, should I stay where I am (as it seems Seoul would be the primary target) or do I head to the Embassy. Or, perhaps most likely, am I'm a screwed either way?
Again, I don't think anything will happen. I'm planning on enjoying my kimchi for the rest of my contract. But you never know... |

touchy! how do you know the OP is American?
I'm British so that link has no relevance to me, or any other non-American for that matter. For any Brits here, our Embassy is saying the following:
On 25 May 2009, North Korea carried out an underground nuclear test and has since test-launched a number of short-range missiles. On 27 May, it said that it regarded South Korean membership of the US-led Proliferation Security Initiative as an act of aggression and would no longer be bound by the terms of the 1953 Armistice Agreement.
The British Embassy is monitoring the situation closely. Although tensions on and around the Korean peninsula are heightened, we believe that there is no evidence of increased risk or danger to those living in or travelling to South Korea as a result of recent events.
We encourage all British citizens living in Korea to register with the British Embassy in Seoul. If there's a crisis, British consular staff can then contact you to help and can let family and friends know that you are safe. People can do this online by following the following link: http://ukinkorea.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-korea/registering-with-us
British citizens in Korea should monitor local and international media for latest developments. Yonhap's website in English can provide information, but the following Korean sites may at times be more up to date: http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr; http://www.kbs.co.kr. You should also register to receive updates to the Foreign Office's travel advice by following this link: https://secure.fco.gov.uk/en/secure/subscribe?action=subscribe |

The main reason I posted it was because I hadn't seen it posted yet, and I'm sure others are thinking the same thing.
As for why you do this? I don't know, but thanks. |

http://www.international.gc.ca/missions/korea-coree/consular-services-consulaires/eep-peu-eng.asp
"If and when the Canadian government, in consultation with the Canadian Embassy and its possible evacuation partners (the governments of the United States, Britain and Australia), feels that an evacuation from Korea is warranted, necessary information, direction and instructions will be conveyed to you by various means of communication. First, establish and maintain close contact with your consular warden and / or deputy-warden. At the same time, monitor closely and listen for Embassy instruction messages broadcast by AFN (American Forces Network) radio and television (Appendix C). Also, if you have a short wave radio receiver, tune in, and listen for information and direction, broadcast over the international broadcast facilities of Radio-Canada International, the Voice of America, the BBC World Service or the Australian Broadcasting System. Note that it may not be possible for you to rapidly establish direct telephone contact with the Canadian Embassy because telephone circuits are nearly always congested in times of crisis as a result of severe overuse." |

Since we're only 35 miles from the border these evacuation plans crack me up. They would be grand i you had a day or two's warning, buit on the offchance there's ever a 'situation' here you're going to get about 30 seconds warning haha.
If you're in Seoul: Don't worry, you're dead. Take a chill pill.
Outside of Seoul: Go to your nearest fishing village and hich a ride. Buy the boat if you have to. If you're in a bigger town then.. go to a small town and bribe a boat. It'll all work itself out eventually. |

| Is there any chance that a missile from North Korea targeted at Seoul could be intercepted? |
