Probably been over quite a bit, but I failed to locate a thread...

So, what are the pros and cons of working the typical after school job at a public elementary school where you (the teacher) are the only foreigner at the school and work 12:00 to 5:30 (give or take)?

Anyone's input that has this experience is welcomed!

I made a post about this a while ago.

One of my biggest concerns about after school positions are the actual contracts. Some agencies have teachers sign two separate contracts. One with the school who is your sponser and one with the company some with a whole wack of stipulations such as; opening a second bank account and giving them control over it, no definite pay date, huge deductions in pay if you are late example, 100,000 won penality, no insurance, no pension, no severance, no vacation, no sick days.

Each contract varies from one employer to another. My suggestion when looking at an after school program is to go meet with them in person and ask a lot of questions. If the employer doesn't answer them or gives you a washy answer, walk away from the deal. The best type of after school postions are those with only one contract that is straight forward and direct. My philosophy with contracts are, if they sound too technical and have too much jibberish, then there is a strong chance you will have a lot of problems to deal with in the future.

I see. Thanks for your help.

So, your advice would be to make sure there is one contract and it is clear and simple? I cannot meet with them in person, as I am in my own country.

What about the actual job? Do you have experience? I am sure every school has its differences...

watch out for the double bank book scam with afterschool program recruiters. Win Education aka Edu-up seem a common name that pops up for this sort of kind of thing
