I've had a lot of fun teaching a few friends of mine how to kizomba dance lately. We've been meeting at Raggae Pub in Itaewon. It's been so successful and so much fun that I'd like to ramp the effort up a notch.

Here's the deal:

Kizomba is a really slick, super sexy, smooth dance. It's sorta like bachata. I really, really like bachata........but I think I like kizomba just as much.

You can see what 'kizomba dancing' looks like by just looking it up on YouTube.

When you see it, it looks sorta like tango....except that it's a bit looser and flows more freely around the floor. The music is very sexy and romantic. It almost sounds like Hustle or Disco....but not quiet. Some of the newer music (like you'll hear in some of the videos on YouTube) has a raw 'edge' to it that I especially like.

The basic step and rhythm is exactly the same as Swing Dance. It's just the hip and kneww movement and the tango-like twisting of the body that makes it different. But still......it's amazingly easy to do. All the Kizomba teachers in Europe comment that it's really easy for salsa dancers, or bachata dancers, to pick up really quick. I've

It actually comes from Angola. It got into Europe, (where it's fairly popular but still somewhat 'the new dance on the block') via Portugal due to the colonial connection between Angola and Portugal.

It's just now getting a small start in the USA.

Nobody has ever heard of it over here except those people in the Seoul Salsa and Latin Dance Group with me. And just a few of them have shown an itnerest so far. That's normal though and I don't care because I'm still able to enjoy it with a few progressive dance-head friends of mine.

Anyway, I'd like to start having an informal, one hour or so, lesson and practice session at Raggae Pub every Saturday and/or Sunday. Mr. Lim, the owner over there, has been very nice and accomodating. He's got a bunch of my music in his music files now so.....the music is ready to go.

If you think you might be interested, I'd suggest you first check it out on YouTube, then let me know if you're interested in getting togather for a taste sometime.(010 5822 2277)

And..as another note....I've been doing some experimenting and I do think the Kizomba step would apapt well to some of the smoother bachata music we hear.

Best regards,
Art
